vernons touchdown was stunning

Funny, I just commented in another thread about how big of a joke I thought it was:
Just saw the highlight for Vernon Davis' long touchdown. Ugh, I love Davis, but just a reminder of how soft the league has become. You can see two would-be help tacklers outright quit on the play, almost assuredly because they didn't want to risk an unnecessary roughness penalty. Reminds me of that TD Tom Brady had last year on SNF, where a DT/DE had Brady wrapped up, but let him go instead of driving him to the ground after assuming the play was dead.

If we are judging apples to apples, Jimmy G is exponentially better than Alex Smith 11 games into their careers.

Yep. The Vernon play was the best play of NFL Week 1, and made it even better when hearing about the story behind it. Great moment. Happy that Vernon is still doing it.

sounds more like bananas to me.
how can one even begin to compare the two players first 11 games?

Jimmy got to sit on the bench with one of the best coaches and starting QBs of all time on a great team.

Alex smith had Mike Nolan and Tim Rattay. Alex was starting like 5 weeks into his rookie season on a horrible team.

lolz

OK if thats so laughable, what would be a good way to compare the two? How they did at similar age? You scoff at comparing the first 11 starts. So what would be a better measuring stick then?

Compare the two, right now? No good way.
Age. Not a factor.
None.

If there is no good way to judge Alex versus Jimmy, you are essentially saying that there is no good way to judge any quarterback against one of his peers. Because the situations are never going to be the same.

Joe Montana or Brady? Different situations, so we cant compare the two.

Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers? Eh, different situations. Would be unfair to judge.

IMO, no. Not right now. Can Jimmy finish a full season first?

You're trying to compare a guy that's been in the league for like for 15 years and has 10 full season of games played to a guy who's never even finished half a season.

Comparing like QBs with HOF type careers is a totally different story.
TB would be a nice landing spot for Alex if he's ready next year. Good weapons they need someone who can limit the to's.

Then maybe your first post on the subject should have been directed at the guy who asked the question, not me who responded.
