No better than Alex Smith so far, probably worse because Alex Smith actually helps the running game lol and choking in the AFC championship won't be good for next season.

So what were you saying ? Win or lose, at this point, Alex Smith could only dream of playing this good against the pats in the playoffs.

Alex Smith has beaten NE and Brady in NE (that season Alex Smith beat both SB teams, NE and Seattle).
Mahomes hasn't even beat Brady and might never will if Brady retires after winning this SB.

Alex only KC playoff win was against Hoyer , who had 4 INTs
Mahomes and the offense were horrible in the first half. Cant play for only one half against Tom.

Chiefs are a very flawed team. Exciting to watch though.
Glad this hype train is over

I mean...he's the MVP. He was a an idiot DLman lining up 6 inches offsides away from going to the Superbowl.

He played horrible in the first half but that is not the hype train ending. Best young QB in the league by a mile.

lol....you think its over.

Once Brady hangs up his boots, this guy will probably dominate the AFC for the next 15 years. There's no one else in the AFC that can compete with these guys. Too much buffoonery in that conference.
The ghost of dee ford
Damn, we got robbed of a GREAT super bowl. Dee ford lined up like a dips**t. If not we get an all time super bowl. Now we get to watch the boring ass pats instead of the most exciting team and player in football

Proves Alex was holding a talented team back if a 23 yo can get there

lol wtf, who cares? Smith went to the NFC Championship game. If Mahomes was on the Buffalo Bills he wouldn't have been anywhere near this type of success.
Look, Mahomes is a good QB, but people on THIS SITE who think "mahomes over garoppolo by all 32 GMs and it's not even close" need to chill the f**** out with that talk.

What we saw today from Mahomes was an elevated version of Russell Wilson perhaps but nothing like a true baller dominant QB. Too much of that game early on was the Chiefs still trying to play like they did against 85% teams of the league which do not have the schematic ability to limit them the way BB did today. No ability to go ball control when it would have helped. They should have been able to kill the clock on that final regulation drive in a way that they could have ended the game on their own terms.

But the way the Chiefs are built, they had to score a TD anyway they could have. Couldn't risk not scoring.

And some of that goes on Andy too. As a commentator said, they have all the tricks on 1st and 2nd down but have a far more normal offense on 3rd down.

Unless McVay and Goff win this next game, Kyle Shananan is still the best OC to battle Belichick along with Frank Reich in the Super Bowl.

Kyle & Jimmy should be something special. After watching over half the year with Mullens, there is no f**** doubt.

If he becomes available in FA because of this I'm all for it.
lol, yea we should be praying to high heavens that Garrapolo is even 25% of what mahomes is. If he even gets 20 TDs next year, I'll be ecstatic. Got low expectations.
Mahomes is a baller. Too bad the coin toss did him no favors. Brady never loses when the coin toss goes his way.

Mahomes doesn't suck. He might be more explosive than JG going forward....

Still, it doesn't matter. When you look at the top 5-8 QBs of all time, they resemble Brady/Montana/Brees/Young/Rodgers than they do Mahomes type. And it's mostly because when you made it to a high level throwing from the pocket, you need to bring it more than guys who were able to get away with more mobility or freaky arm strength. What Steve Young was able to do was second to none because he was more like the other guys originally than what he turned out to be.

Throwing for over 50 TDs in a season has never won a team the Super Bowl *in that season* (brady in 07, peyton in 13, mahomes in 18).

And if you look at the stats in totality, it would probably make sense. A 50 TD throwing QB is typically playing with explosion, and that means that when faced with a really good defense they will not be able to handle it as well (Giants in '07, Seahawks in '13, Patriots just now). Also, I've said it before, it's really hard to field an elite offense and an elite defense at the same time. Any of those Chiefs defenses under Smith between 2013-2016 would have rocked in combination with Mahomes.......in theory......but it's almost never happened. The 2007 Patriots were the closest thing to it, and still lost the SB that they should have been able to put away (the modern Patriots would have, for sure).

What I was getting at is Mahomes is a baller talent playing on a great offense, but he showed today that he's still young.....and to a good extent his offensive scheme set up for him has aided his ability to make plays.

Nothing wrong with that, but experience matters. Luckily the Chiefs defense showed up a bit otherwise it would have been Chargers all over again....

Still have full confidence in Garoppolo and nothing wrong with being even a little homer-ish about it.
