Sammy Watkins is better than a lot of #2 receivers in the league. I wouldn't say the Rams gave up on him dude was a free agent you act like they cut him. And with that said, Watkins still put up good numbers (114 yards), so lets not act like hes some scrub too who (how you put it) was given up by two teams.

I admit, Mahomes is damn good, but lets not act like he's not getting help.

If you only would have seen how much Conley has been dismissed in this thread as an irrelevant/replaceable player the last few years. Now all of a sudden he is some threat.

Hill and Kelce are both legit great weapons. But Patriots shut both down and Mahomes still had an outstanding game.

Why do people keep acting like Chiefs are insanely stacked. Mahomes has 2 great players, and both were shutdown

Also huge game by Sorensen, game of his life.

Without Watkins tonight the Chiefs lose in regulation by two touchdowns.

Without Mahomes they don't make the playoffs.

Mahomes is better than Alex and Jimmy G.

He had a good game yes, but it's funny you won't give Mahomes credit

That's not the point at all. Look at what I wrote above - Hill is shut down. So is Kelce. Who was left? Watkins.

It is curious that last season the narrative was that all the great weapons the Chiefs had were carrying Alex Smith to his career year. This year, Mahomes had what Smith had, plus Watkins and Conley, and the healthiest OL the Chiefs have had going into the playoffs in the past 5 years...and the narrative is all about Mahomes. smh

Mahomes has freakish arm talent and the ability to make plays no one else makes. However, he also showed last night that he is still young and needs to learn how to play the game in very competitive situations. You just cannot take 14 yard sacks that put your defense in a big hole instead of checking it down or throwing it out of bounds. All that is stuff he will learn as he gains more experience but give credit where credit is due - he has a great cast around him.
Another factor that has been very overlooked in the KC success is the OL. Mitch Morse is very good at adjusting blocking assignments. While he was out for five games, the run game struggled. When he came back, Damien Williams averaged 5.1 yards/attempt, better than Kareem Hunt's 4.6 prior to his release.

All part of the puzzle.

Oh is this the Alex Smith thread?

And continues to give credit to a guy who is essentially a 500 yard WR year after year.

So Brett Veach is a genius for making the move to draft Mahomes, and for making the Smith trade which cleared a ton of cap room and brought in a good, young CB to allow them to get rid of head case Peters, but is a stupid for bringing in another offensive weapon for Mahomes to use?

If that is your point, Veach and Andy Reid are the biggest idiots on the planet for giving a "500 yd/year receiver" a #1 receiver contract.

For the record, Watkins 2019 cap number is $19.2M, escalating to $21M in 2020.

You are the only one I can recall having said that. I recall specifically you and I on opposite sides of that discussion. You said he was irrelevant. I said he was so relevant that the Chiefs released three other WRs on the assumption he would come back and play well.

Alex made the playoffs with inferior weapons several times.

Because they were. The offense was stacked. And he played well. But still threw a career high 26 td compared to mahomes who threw 50 in his first year. Not even close . One guy was clearly being elevated by his stacked offense. While the other elevated his stacked offense.

Sammy Watkins and his 43 percent of snaps played (plus the rest) is hardly the reason mahomes doubled smiths career high total

No, srry dj. The last couple of seasons there were people pointing out that Conley used to get open but didnt get the ball....but fans of you know who claimed he couldnt catch, ran improper routes, etc.

Now all of a sudden he is a weapon.

My point was Watkins was used ad nauseam as one of the reasons Mahomes was able to accomplish what he did and/or to proclaim how stacked this team was. And I keep pointing out that a 500 yard WR is the difference between what this stacked roster is compared to last year.

How much money Watkins was given is absolutely irrelevant to this conversation.
adam schefter said KC would try to lock up Mahomes as soon as they're able to...also said $200 million isn't out of the question at all
