If that is true, then the outcome speaks volumes about Gore...

Imagine if we actually had a decent quarterback and a passing game when Gore was here and he didnt have to beat 8-9 men in the box every carry.

Diminishing Gore's excellence to excuse Alex Smith. Jesus Christ this takes he cake. As a Niner fan, this disgusts me beyond belief.
Decent quarterback? Smith and Kaep were decent through the playoff years. Passing game was good enough.
However, your post sounds like a search for Gorexcuses to me.

LOL
GJ Andy, steve spagnuolo LOL. Like I said GG

It wasn't good enough. Was more the coaching then the qbs imo tho neither guy was good enough to be the focal point. Gore carried the load for years without ever having the necessary coaching or talent around him.

If Shanny had Gore from the jump his numbers would be ridiculous.

What a pathetic post
Just want you guys to know Barry Sanders sucked, their offense never excelled. He was never really a difference maker.

lol. Gore is a HOF RB. He made this team go (to the extent that it did so) for YEARS. No need to diminish what he did to prop up Smith or anyone else.

Bump for communist.

But since its not about Smith i doubt dj cares...

And that was the problem. He's not special. If only we built around Alex now that is special.

Gore did the heavy lifting. Problem was that Alex wasn't able to lift the light load to help keep the chains moving often enough. We kept teams off balance with our play action but could not connect often enough unless it was Vernon wide open deep.

LIES. The Webzone taught me that Smith couldn't throw deep.
Gore was a stud. Alex was a young QB not skilled enough to carry a team and needed a consistent and skilled OC to pair him with. WRs/OL were sub par for most of Alex's time. Norv Turner with Gore/Alex is what could have been if we had nailed the coaching hires and kept them.
Mahomes is very skilled, but he landed in a great situation with Andy Reid to develop and groom him.

If Mahomes went to Buffalo, he'd probably have a QB rating of 85 and not the 98 he finished with the Chiefs with. That doesn't mean Mahomes isn't an elite talent or great.

But the symbiotic relationship of Coach-QB is critical. Joe Montana and Bill Walsh would not have reached their greatness alone.

Bellicheck without Brady is probably a slightly better version of his Browns while Brady rides the pine in the league.
Still pissed we don't get to see Mahomes in the Super Bowl. What a gift to the NFL he is, especially in Reid's system

Good post.

More lies! It was because we didn't have a deep threat.
