Apparently he'll be the first guy to ever get in while still on his rookie contract.

Not yet.

Year 10 is when you really know.
So many butthurt people in this thread who are mad they didn't see the obvious when he was in college: that he has out of this world talent and every single tool you'd want if you built a QB from scratch. Just admit he is the best QB in the league and will be for the next decade. And we picked Thomas instead.

Could have had any number of great players if Draft picks in any year had gone another way. Gio Carmazzi over Tom Brady anyone?

...and that's where people get themselves in trouble.

yeah, its pretty sad.

I am man enough to admit that I was wrong on Mahomes. He's a hall of famer. I saw enough in 1 year.

Good point. You never know what injuries may happen, or he just may go full Chris Borland. He's certainly the best qb that has come out of the draft in a decade and it was clear and obvious on his college tape.

Funniest thing is the people worried about the scheme he was in, as if he didn't make plays outside of it half the time. Like Bill Walsh said about Marino: Mahomes isn't a system qb, he is a system.
That said I'm quite happy with Garoppolo. The best qb in a given year doesn't always win the Super Bowl. Hiw many times has Brady even been the best in a single year he's won the Super Bowl? Certainly none of his first three, and certainly not last season.

Meh, would still take Andrew Luck over him if they were in the same draft. Mahomes matched with the perfect coach and a great supporting cast... but he still has to be consistent year over year for him to meet the hype you're giving him. He's got a full year of film out now and an off-season for defenses to dissect it.

I like Mahomes and am rooting for him cause his talent is off the charts... but the league has a laundry list of QBs with phenomenal years that fell off once defenses had a chance to figure out their tendencies. I dont think he is a flash in the pan but his numbers wont be as video game-like next year.
Our defense was able to stop him for a few drives when Jimmy started making a comeback and before his acl tear. The last place ranked secondary defense.

The league has no list of QBs that won an mvp and then became average. At least not modern football. Closest one would be Boomer, but that was still in the 80s.
