well nobody is saying he's Rodgers. most QBs if their key WR's (plural) get injured of course he won't carry them, especially not with that defense. what he's done so far is worth going crazy over, he's the first QB in history to start with 10 TDs lol. and nobody is saying he's going to do this every week, people are just marveling at the present, what's wrong with that?

I've been under the impression that the offensive playmakers and friendly QB playcalling were what made this offense run. The QB position was basically plug n play. Has that changed?
If I'm starting a team today, and picking one guy to start with, it's Mahomes.

Smith looked really good last year as well, and now they also added Watkins. Not saying Smith would have 10 TDs through 2 games, but this offense is stacked. There was a stat on ESPN that Pat has only thrown 9% of his passes into tight coverage. That's crazy. Their guys are just always open. And it's only 2 games, let's not get crazy. The obvious choice to start a team around would be Mayfield
Very difficult for any team to dominate 3 weeks in a row. Got a feeling the KC crowd going to be disappointed.

I disagree. Right now, Hunt only has 1 reception. 3 games into last season, Hunt already had 11 receptions. Alex would have made sure Hunt had at least 7 receptions by now which would also be bypassing big play opportunity to what have been "unreliable inconsistent WR's" like Watkins.

Did we not forget that Alex also had Maclin who's first 6 years in the league was an average of 976 yards per year with 773 his rookie season and 1300 yards prior to coming to KC. The excuse was made that Maclin was not reliable. I'm sure the same thing would be said about Watkins had Alex Smith been the KC QB this year.

One thing Alex Smith is and that is a WR killer.

Why would I post this in the Smith thread?

Let's keep those assertions in the Smith thread, OK?

Maclin was good, but did they have Kelce / Hill then? Can't remember, if they did they must've been rookies.

Add Watkins to this mix, you have crazy speed and athleticism every were. The fact that they are that open, I don't know if Alex would've relied on Hunt as much. True, maybe some better numbers for Hunt, but that wouldn't have changed how well the WRs/TEs run their routes. Obviously they made the right choice, but it was also a matter of cap room with Alex and realizing that he's not 23 anymore either.

sorry dj, just saw that post

Kelce has been with the Chiefs since 2013(!), Hill since 2016. Hill only averaged 9.7 yards per catch his rookie season, though.

Band meet wagon. Mahomes is certainly lighting it up right now and it's possible he continues on this course for the remainder of his career but two games is a pretty small sample size. We had a QB around here a few years ago who people were saying could be "the best" that ever played, talking about you Ron Jaworski. How did that work out? Watson started out gangbusters last year until he hurt his knee now we'll see how it goes. Mahomes came into a really good situation. He was able to sit for a year behind a guy who was willing to help him and is a real professional and so he had a chance to learn how to play the position at the NFL level. He has some of the best offensive weapons in the league and an offensive coordinator who seems to know how to use them. There is no denying the kid has a big arm and the arrow is certainly pointing up but I think I'll wait until the season is over before rushing to judgement on his future.

This guy gets it.
I might just watch that chiefs steelers game to further expect wtf might happen tommorow.

These are the same Steelers whom ALMOST lost to the Browns.

Browns tied Steelers

Steelers lose horribly to Chiefs

Browns beat the lowly jets.

In other words I can't tell Who's really good or just really bad r n in the season.

Lot of people are in awe of the Steeler image of the past but disregard the team that takes the field this season. The current edition is NOTHING like the hard-nosed defensive teams of the past. In fact, the 2018 edition is nothing like the team that started the 2017 season. Losing Ryan Shazier had a HUGE impact on the team. He was the Patrick Willis to their defense. Because he was able to do so much in the middle of the field, opponents were limited in where they could attack. Without Shazier the entire Pitt defense is vulnerable. KC took advantage of that space and had a big day. Let's see if Foster and Warner can have a Shazier-like impact on the KC offense.
