Im sure they watched some, just as I'm sure the Chiefs did too before trading for him. It took them 4 more years of watching to realize he doesn't have it. Both fan bases that watched him for years know he's not worth what those "professionals " just gave up for him.

I think you'd be surprised at how little work these professionals actually put in and how much they just go by paper stats and narratives. I've seen them talk out their ass before, saying things that proved they were lying about watching film of a certain player. Just look at some of these moves like oswiker to Houston, I know better than these professionals most the time.

Alex is valued highly by many around the league, as has been stated by different media outlets and proven by the huge contract Alex got, and the haul that KC received in the trade.

There is a wide range of opinion regarding Alex throughout the league. He is good, but never got the respect he deserved until Washington showed him some now. The fact he got dumped twice is crazy for a guy who just got paid like that. Shows the range of opinion for Alex.

I think SteveWallace is surprised that a team would invest that much into Alex because he thought only a few on the Zone regarded him that highly (as he stated). My boy likes to debate, so he'll go at it any angle possible

I was surprised that a team would invest that much in Alex. I really thought he was going to a place where he would be the placeholder/bridge QB. But it just shows how desperate teams are for competent QB play.

And yeah, you hit the nail on the head. It seems clear that there is a wide range of opinions on Alex in every world, not just the WZ world.

Alex is one of those players you have to watch to see where the problem lies. His last 5 years look good on paper, but there's a reason both those stacked teams dropped him and most of our fan base and the entire Chiefs fan base don't care one bit. We watched all his snaps and know he's a dead end. 12 years and all those stacked teams and one legit playoff win to show for it. He's really not that great.

So the pros on all the team staffs that wanted to trad for him didn't actually watch him? That's interesting.

The two teams that got to see him day in and day out let him go for a younger player? Now that's Interesting.

We've covered this, bro. I'm disappointed that you didn't pick up on that given your keen interest in Smith, his money, and his wife. Glance though the two (!!) threads on this aftermath and you will find it. You keep being you, my man! Kudos!

I think if the chiefs wanted to keep smith they would have made it work regardless of cap situation. Franchise qb dont become cap casualties. We know exactly what kc thinks of smith

They could have cut Dereck Johnson and Tamba Hali = save $15M. Cut a couple of other marginal starters for another $3-4M. Now they could have kept Smith.

However, they would still not have a 3rd round pick and would still be starting Darrelle Revis...and have no cap room by the time they sign their draft picks much less replace Hali and Johnson or others they would cut.

That scenario makes is a dead end for KC.

Here is a good article on who "won" and who "lost" in the trade.

this thread is supposed to be about the Kansas Chiefs. not Alex Smith. Please stay on topic.

Thank you.
Mahomes is intriguing to me next year. He's got some nice weapons next year to work with. They need an all around WR though. The little quick and fast guys can only do so much for you. Other than Kelce, there's no physical size to the offense weapons.

OLine been up and down during the year for the last 3 years now

If they are smart, KC will just do with Mahomes what STL did with Goff: 95% Hunt in run plays, 60% Hunt in pass plays with a sprinkle of Kelce and Hill.

Just need to focus their improvement all on defense this offseason.
So are all the alex fans who became chiefs fans, will they become skins fans now ?

There is a long history of ex-49ers going to Kansas City and continuing their interest as a second team. With Alex Smith now in Washington, assuming he signs the contract come March, let's put KC comments here.

I'll start by saying KC struck a huge blow for improving their team with the Smith trade:

The key to the deal was Kendall Fuller. He fills the biggest need KC had: CB. By the end of this past season, Reid had a choice of ex-49er Kenneth Acker or a washed-up Darrelle Revis at corner. Both were responsible for plays that led to losses.

This is brilliant for KC. A secondary weakness becomes a strength, they get out of salary cap hell, and they get a 3rd round draft pick this year. Arizona had no way to match this deal in value to KC. A three-way win for KC.

Of course the key will be whether or not Patrick Mahomes can play well on a consistent basis. With only one league game behind him, he will have a heavy load on his shoulders starting the new season.

Solid post!

If they do well in FA & the draft they'll be a handful to contend with.

Also a gamble - Mahomes still has to prove himself.

I thik they really believe he's their FQB - we'll see.
