We can't keep 6 active backs with Mitchell coming back. Wilson would not have cleared waivers obviously, and we just invested a 3rd in TDP so we aren't going to cut him yet or risk trying to sneak him on the PS. So that leaves the UDFA in Mason, who made a big enough impression to make the final roster and Wilson.

With a trusted vet in TeCo on the PS, it was easier to cut Wilson and gain something for an UDFA we developed instead of giving up on the kid we are currently developing and getting nothing in return.

They may have asked Wilson if he wanted to be traded or maybe he just went to them and said he wanted to go. In any case a 5th round pick isn't too bad.
