If we could trade down a couple picks and still land him and pick up at least another 2nd rounder I would be happy.

Shaq Lawson can still be a pretty good one if he gets past his injuries.

So many elite options at pass rush this year, Bosa or not.
I only watched the Clemson/NC State game but he looked sooooo invisible to me. Has he at least been good/a force in other games this season? We really can't afford to pick another Solomon Thomas, #1 overall or not, and my gut tells me this would be the same kind of pick.

Depends on what you mean by "force"? Bosa wasn't awesome in every single game he played. Same with any prospect. But you have to look at the whole picture.

What is your threshold for that term?

Making a clear impact on the game. You could still be a "force" and not get any sacks but if pressure is light/rare to the point where any other player could do the same thing in your place, then you're not really being a "force" to me. Obviously, it's very subjective.

That describes several current Dlinemen on the roster now (well, maybe not a force).

I really want 10+ sacks per year with a top 3 pick.
The big difference I see between Bosa and some of the others is name recognition. Every fan knows the Bosa name so drafting him will create more excitement and the fans need something to feel excited about going into next year other than the return of Jimmy G. It may all change at the combine but for now he is the #1 guy heading into the draft.

Nah Bosa is a technician, he wins with an array of moves and has a non-stop motor. All these other edge rushers have great qualities, but lack in other areas.

Ferrell-has the size and array of moves, but I question his motor/athleticism. I can't wait to see him vs that ND OL and possibly Jonah Williams.

Allen-has a crazy motor and is athletic. He's a bit one dimensional and needs to work on the speed to power. Great upside though.

Polite-also has a crazy motor and love the flexibility/ explosion. A one yr wonder kinda of dude and lacks ideal length.

Burns-Love his pass rush moves and he killed acc tackles. Dude is skinny as s**t and not sure, but he might get washed out by grown men in the NFL (until he gets stronger).

Honestly the only issue with Bosa is the fact that he didn't have a crap ton of tape this yr...he really doesn't lack in anything imo. So no it's not just about his last name. He's damn good

The gap isn't that big. If it was he would be getting 15-20 sacks in college. His numbers aren't that different. He probably gets 3 or 4 more sacks a year than some of these guys. Maybe more maybe less. My point is we need that name. A lot of casual fans just watch to see some guy that they recognize. Some of them would probably see that name and immediately recognize it. We need fan support because it adds excitement and that's one thing this team lacks.

Not always true, gotta watch how each guy gets sacks...I saw a couple unblocked sacks given to Ferrell the past two seasons.

If you're looking at stats only then Sutton Smith should be the #1 overall pick. FWIW Bosa was on pace for 16 sacks before getting hurt.

Bosa simply brings a day one pass rush with not a lot of holes. There's a reason he's been looked at as the top overall pick for a yr. he's really good period.

I agree with you. Bosa is the top guy. But missing out on him and getting Allen, et al is not a big deal.

We don't need a name, nobody cares about a name. We have Jimmy Garoppolo, the fan support is there when the team is competitive.

I always find your posts peculiar

Your first mistake is thinking that college stats mean very much. They don't. Bruce Miller had 36 sacks as a college player, including 13 in his junior season, he wound up as a 7th rounder and switched to offense. You have to look at numbers in context and take numerous factors into consideration. Ultimately it comes down to what a guy is able to do that will best translate to the NFL game. In that regard, Bosa is quite a bit ahead of most pass rushers that come out of college. He's got refined technique that it normally takes players a few years to develop. He's been quite well coached and it shows in every aspect of his game. Just as some players are best positioned to excel in the college game but don't have the skills or athleticism for the pro game, such as Michael Sam, you have prospects like Bosa that are best situated to thrive at the NFL level.
