Depends what you are looking for. He's easily a very good to great DE in any 4-3 scheme. He's an effective 3-down player, which means he would be on the field with the base defense, getting all of those pass rushing opportunities when a team decides to throw on an early down from 21 personnel. He wins with technique and effort more than get off and explosive athletic attributes, so his game should age well.

Sweat is a more explosive pass rusher, but I don't know that he's got the lead in his ass to play extensively on base downs (yet).

IMO, I just don't see any QB worthy of a top 5 pick right now. This is the time to stand pat and take the best available. 49ers could always take two but its much better to take the best of the bunch.

Herbert will be a top 5 qb if he stays healthy. There's also some tackles and DT that will be moving up as well....if they can get some quality picks and still get a sweat or burns im cool with it.

I also expect SF to bring in a pass rusher via FA.
As soon as draft time rolls around there'll be a number of QB's moving up the charts and IMO - that's good for us.

I don't know who the FA edge rushers will be but I'd like us to get both.

Injuries are a way of life in NFL and it seems especially for the Niners.

So, if we get 2 - we'll have an incredible attacking D and if one gets hurt we can still be effective.

I like your thinking and it makes much sense but I'm not sure the niners sign a pass rusher to huge money then use their top pick on one too, the other needs are important too, like I've said I could see them taking one in the 2nd or trading back into the late 1st to grab one of Allen, Sweat, Burns or Polite, expecting Bosa and Ferrell going way earlier..I'd expect 1 to fall

Honestly, there is no pass rusher in free agency worth a huge money deal like Khalil Macks. Someone will over pay for Ezekiel Ansah and DeMarcus Lawrence but I don't see Lynch doing it. IMO, Saleh may influence Lynch to go after Fowler but I don't think he'll command a ridiculous contract. Signing Fowler should not prevent the 9ers from going after a pass rusher in the top 10, especially since there will be no clear cut starter at both DE spots, not to mention depth is a real concern too.

Agree
Clemson never produces legit defensive linemen , at least not since Michael Dean & William the Fridge Perry played

lol I like him, but he seems to disappear a lot. could be playing it safe this year.
Reminds me of Tank Carradine

Grady Jarrett is a legit defensive lineman

Grady Jarrett is a beast.

I would disagree with that comparison. Ferrell is tall and rangy and a prototypical 4-3 DE. Not sure that Tank ever really had a fit anywhere.
Yeah, I don't see the Tank comparison whatsoever. Clelin is much more proficient at rushing the passer.

Tank had great tools but no clue how to use them.

Ferrell has the perfect body for a LEO.

And next week Sweat vs Ferguson!
If no Bosa it has to be this guy or Sweat

Ferrell reminds me a smidge of Cliff Avril. Though I'm not as high on him because he has a ton of help with top tier talent next to him taking pressure off.

I don't see that at all. Cliff Avril's bread and butter was his speed rush. He was a screamer off the edge and had a scorching 1.50 10-yard split(I believe that's the all-time best) at the combine. I can't see Ferrell sniffing that number on his best day. Ferrell has stiffness in his lower body that Avril didn't.

Ferrell is a lot closer to someone like Terrell Suggs that uses his hands, moves, and a mature pass-rush plan to get home.

Bad, bad matchup for FSU's offense today. This Clemson line almost killed Francois two years ago in Tallahassee, and they're starting to get constant pressure already. Absolute domination today.
