Why does that guy sitting next to Jimmy G look so happy? Maybe he bet under 8 wins last year.

Brown doesnt fit the system but players like Garnett, Tomlinson, AA, and Ward do.

You see trents' run blocking performance when he was with us? Dog sh**. There's nothing we can do with garnett cut him on his rookie deal? We're gonna have to pay him regardless. Arik had a solid season this year, and ward..... well i agree with you lol

I am more worried about this guy than run blocking.

And yet his injury had nothing to do with pass protection or trading Brown and everything to do with him stupidly deciding he didn't want to run out if bounds.

The pocket collapsed but my point is that we should probably protect our FQB who has a bum leg and has missed a stretch of games in his short career twice due to injury.
Pass protection was not good at all.

This...dude had instant pressure and was scrambling for his life (McGlinchey beat). Bad things happen when you're running for your life in the NFL and when your QB's are getting hit 117 & 125 times. It just increases the probability someone goes down with injury (BeatHard). All 3 took some huge hits that I genuinely was surprised they got up from.

Upgrade the Guards. And hopefully Richburg doesn't have deal with another injury

That's about all you can hope for now. But we just gave Tomlinson an extension and they really seem to like him. Our hope lies in Richburg's successful surgery and recovery, Staley staying healthy at his age and finding a permanent RG (not another 1 year experiment) who will play even better than Mike Person (since it sounds like we won't pay him). And another year in the system.

Jet, Juice and Kittle are all good pass protectors as well.

Badly need a WR who can consistently get open right out of the blocks and for the rest to learn how to beat press/man.

McG should be even better going into his 2nd year. If they like Tomlinson, then they only need to add another starting G like you mentioned. Add better depth also.

A few more sacks and a few more QB hits surrendered with a rookie RT and a starting center who played three quarters of the season with a knee injury. And if you look at our last 3 games of this past year vs 2017 it showed a sack less per game when Jimmy was under center, meaning a more decisive QB who gets the ball out of his hand quicker actually helps. The loss of Brown did not really hurt this team in pass pro, but getting a healthy Jimmy G and Richburg back plus a healthy Jet who has shown to be far better in pass pro than any of our current HB's can definitely be a boost to our pass pro.

i think its fool hardy to pin our hopes on better pass protection with having jimmy back there getting rid of the ball quicker., the team needs a upgrade the guard,. and maybe another tackle. assuming jet is back . assuming jimmy is back and assuming the center is healthy is alot of wishing and hoping. i trust the team is not setting around player checkers and are pondering upgrades on the o line. getting the ball out quick is nice but it just takes one bad hit and how mobile will jimmy really be . i count on nothing from the so called jet .

Fingers crossed that all things on the line work out optimally. JG and his knee/body are going to need it.

Yeah.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol2017

DVOA:
2018: Overall Rank - 10 & PP - 22
2017: Overall Rank - 10 & PP - 18

Same QB hits and 15 more yards a game in 2018 but 8 less TD's.

The real difference was in that right side of the line in run blocking with Kilgore + Fusco + Brown vs. Richburg + Person + McGlinchey.

That C + RG is way more critical in this scheme than some fans realize. We all know the importance of being able to run off T to in this OZ scheme.

On a team where your TE has almost three times as many yards as your best WR, the FB should have plenty of opportunity to get 500 yards receiving. It is not like he ran the ball either, he averaged less than 3 yards per game on the ground.

Does anybody know how often Juice had to block on pass plays because of our poor interior O-line? He's not a good rusher, but he plays a huge role in our running game. He's worth the money imo.

The team did a terrible job protecting the QB, getting rid of Brown rally hurt the OL.

The bulk of the pressures came from the interior...same as last year when he was here.

Agreed. Our tackle play has been stellar both years minus off tackle to the right with Brown naturally. But overall PP from all 3 T's has been one of the best units in the NFL. Period.

Now...about that interior. LOL

Wish there were some better options in FA. Looks like the draft is pretty deep again with good interior guys though
