Could have just drafted Freeman and a change of pace back later, spent this money on OL or any number of positions.
The money they are paying him says that they expect him to run for 1,000+ yards a year and be a feature back.
This guy is a big upgrade from Hyde in receiving ability but also a big downgrade in running ability so I'm pretty perplexed.
Minnesota's run game went to crap anytime they had to depend on this guy for more than a handful of carries.
So what were they expecting from Juice when they paid him that much? 700 yards rushing and 50 catches? Why can't they still spend money on OL, they have a ton of it. What they DIDN'T spend on CB (sherman's deal) they put towards a OW.
Stop looking at it as he's just a RB...look at what Kamara did with the Saints. 120 carries and 100 targets...I don't expect him to be as good, but 1,200 yards from scrimmage isn't out of the question. That's worth $7.5 million per yr IMO. You got guys like Ryan Grant getting 4 yr $30 million dollar deals and I don't see him sniffing 1,200 yards from scrimmage ever.
Now draft a dude like Chubb/Freeman and we're set at RB for the next 4 yrs.

We are loaded with speed and complex route combinations. No time for the defense to relax.

Kyle Shanahan changing and improving the Niners passing. And now changing the Niners running game.
I got so f**king tired of the inside run that was so prevalent since Nolan, Singlatary, Harbaugh, and the aberration of the other 2 guys. A lot of that was due to having Gore, but there was no excuse when you realized there more than 1 RB on the team. Yet some how they could never consistently spread them out and run the ball like other teams. We were forced to watch Frank torpedo into a crumble of humanities for 3 f**king yard. That is NOT the running offense of the Niners of my youth.
I'm so happy we got a competent Kyle Shanahan.
With this signing Kyle is saying to the defense. You want to be physical man up on my receivers, then you try to stop my RB and FB up front on the edge too.

Roster cuts?
Lol. No

Compared to bringing back Hyde, this is a better move for Kyle's offense.
Excited we have added 3 good starters so far in FA.

I am generally confused as to why this poster said this
Anytime you have to redshirt a rookie RB, its largely a whiff. Any thing Williams can provide at this point will be a bonus but he showed up out of shape and got beat out by an undrafted back after the team had traded up for him.
That is a major disappointment anyway you slice it.
Correct
Joe will be fighting for a roster spot in TC

It's how free agency works...he is young and he will play out the deal and the second two years will look fairly normal for what next years guys get. par for the course.

team him up with a Royce Freeman and we're gonna be very dangerous.
Who the hell is Royce Freeman?
Pass on Freeman:
Doesn't always play to his size. Too willing to eat contact rather than dole it out. Can be slowed by arm tackles. Hip tightness prevents him from consistently slipping leg tackles on perimeter runs. Jump cuts gain limited ground. Appears to anticipate contact at times when attacking run creases. Below average elusiveness once defenders close him out in the open field. Tires are missing some tread. Has had over 1000 touches during his career. Has become more of a grinder than a slasher as his career has moved forward. Lacks an explosive "get-away" gear to pull away from tacklers.
Oh thanks for copying and pasting his weakness from his draft profile lol.

With the amount of money he's getting I wonder how it effects the draft and how late we wait to draft one?

it depends on how the contract lays out. Maybe it's a team friendly deal.
