Thing is, he's not being signed to run between the tackles. He's being signed to get outside or cut back at speed through a gap.

The key there is you want a guy who is decisive and does not hesitate. That isn't McKinnon from what I've seen so I'm really confused by the fit as anything more than a change of pace back but you can find a change of pace back for a lot less than $7+ mil a year, especially this year.

Yup summed it up nicely imo Phx. The fit seems odd and strangely expensive. I am sure the team will write the contract in a team friendly way, but today we downgraded imo.

This guy is better than Hyde at every aspect of playing running back other than actually running the football.

This isn't a case of a talented backup being stuck behind an All Pro level RB either. Minnesota for years gave him every chance to snag the starting job but dude runs the football like he's Mr Magoo.

If there's a visible hole, he'll do stuff like inexplicably cutting back and running right into a linebacker.

Just don't get it. Someone needs to find Ja Rule to help make sense of this.

Then Kyle can use Brieda can speed for offense score. But we need looking for stud rush!!! McKinnon is not rush yards.

Don't worry Buzz...you'll love it when he busts a 40 Yard TD run...

team him up with a Royce Freeman and we're gonna be very dangerous.

Who the hell is Royce Freeman?

Pass on Freeman:

Doesn't always play to his size. Too willing to eat contact rather than dole it out. Can be slowed by arm tackles. Hip tightness prevents him from consistently slipping leg tackles on perimeter runs. Jump cuts gain limited ground. Appears to anticipate contact at times when attacking run creases. Below average elusiveness once defenders close him out in the open field. Tires are missing some tread. Has had over 1000 touches during his career. Has become more of a grinder than a slasher as his career has moved forward. Lacks an explosive "get-away" gear to pull away from tacklers.

Oh thanks for copying and pasting his weakness from his draft profile lol.

So what were they expecting from Juice when they paid him that much? 700 yards rushing and 50 catches? Why can't they still spend money on OL, they have a ton of it. What they DIDN'T spend on CB (sherman's deal) they put towards a OW.

Stop looking at it as he's just a RB...look at what Kamara did with the Saints. 120 carries and 100 targets...I don't expect him to be as good, but 1,200 yards from scrimmage isn't out of the question. That's worth $7.5 million per yr IMO. You got guys like Ryan Grant getting 4 yr $30 million dollar deals and I don't see him sniffing 1,200 yards from scrimmage ever.

Now draft a dude like Chubb/Freeman and we're set at RB for the next 4 yrs.

NY knows what's up.

For real...people in here trying to throw him into "just" a RB which he's clearly not. NFL is changing, why do you think LBers are getting smaller and faster? because of guys like McKinnon.
Well I guess this makes rb the #1 draft need. Lol.

With the amount of money he's getting I wonder how it effects the draft and how late we wait to draft one?

Free agency should fill holes on our roster and the draft is is to take the BPA.

If we are drafting for need we are in big trouble.

Great signing, he and Breida should make a solid combo

And he should make an impact on special teams

Go look at how the Saints you Kamara....IMO that's how he will be used. 120ish carries and 80 targets.

We need a big Mark Ingram like RB which we can now get in the mid rds.

Love this signing the more I think about it

Knew you'd come around!

IMO he's perfect for this system...good vision, not dancing around/hits the hole, above avg pass blocker, hard to tackle. kid knows how to get in the end zone. It would be a great one two combo IMO.
The more I read about him, the more I like this signing. He hasn't produced as much as Hyde but I think he'll be the better fit in Shanahan's system, especially long-term, so you could make the case that we improved at the RB1 position despite Hyde being considered the better player by most people.

I don't like the contract, though. Hopefully the details make it sound a bit nicer.

We still have a few big holes and I wouldn't be surprised to see us use high picks on LB, CB, DE and OG.
