We may want to pick up a veteran cut RB.

Nah Mostert is healthy now as well - Breida, Coleman and Mostert is a good backfield and frees up a roster spot if McKinnon isn't ready.

Still have the sledge hammer that is Jeff Wilson Jr. too.

Not to mention Wilson
Agree with others, injury a year ago, heard positive recovery progress, but now this setback? If he doesn't recover by this year, his career may be over.

I know Niners want to be careful with his rehab and give him more time to heal, but season is about to start. Luckily, we have good depth at RB.

Although I would like him back ASAP, tend to agree with you. He should be given ample time to recover. I believe the dude is an offensive force, and he still may show us that he is. But if we rush him, he may never be right .

Nahh not really, before the injury did anything really stand out to you?? Coleman and Brieda are just as good if not better catching the ball and I shouldn't even have to talk about running the ball. He's a good player but he will not change an offense or make it dynamic

Gotta disagree about the pass catching. He is infinitely better than Breida catching out of the backfield. Coleman is close, but McKinnon is better. His route running as a RB is elite (Coleman is pretty darn good too) . He's also a better lass protector than both. Both are better runners though

Yep, were in really good shape at RB even with McKinnon out. Jefferey Wilson is pretty solid to and Walter is a good PS body

I don't know what an extra 8 weeks off (with an IR designation) would give him. The knee is fully healed. The issue is that he is predisposed to chronic inflammation as a result of the changes made to the structures within the knee. It's possible it goes away, but more likely that it will recur. I think his new reality is that he will have to learn how to play with it. He will have a new normal.

wilson is still hurt, i do not want them to kill the top three guys in pre season. give walter all the carries and maybe find a scrub running back to play in pre season games?

I assume that's what they are also hoping with the PRP, to help with the inflammation and pain.
Mostert is very likely to be our most reliable RB this season. He has incredible speed and is a runner who isn't afraid of contact. He's a vicious tackler on special teams and his toughness is not a question.

His track and field performance in college was nothing short of spectacular. Mostert was a standout sprinter, hurdler, and jumper. He won the 2010 FHSAA 3A District 6 title in the 300-meter hurdles. At the 2011 FHSAA 3A Outdoor State Finals, he finished first in the 100 meters, with a time of 10.68 seconds, and placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, with a personal-best time of 37.95 seconds. He was a member of the Purdue track team and was ranked by NFL.com as the fastest college football player in the NCAA. He took gold in both the 60 meters (6.63s) and 200 meters (20.73s) at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100 meters (10.15s), 200 meters (20.65s) and as a member of 4x100-meter relay squad.

At Purdue, he was so great as a special teams player, both returning kicks and nailing returners, that they didn't let him touch the ball much at RB until his final season when he finished with 93 carries for 529 rushing yards and three TDs to go along with 34 kick returns for 731 yards. For his career, he returned 88 kickoffs for 2289 yards, averaging 26.0 with 2 TDs of 99 and 100 yards.

Unfortunately, as an undrafted free agent RB which are a dime a dozen in the NFL, he has been shuffling around between 5 teams and nobody has given him the chance to star at RB. Perhaps out of necessity this may be his breakout year and he deserves it...

dude better learn not to fumble if he wants to see legit carries
He had two fumbles one day of practice and everyone freaks out. Coleman and Breida fumble and nobody says a thing. Mostert is so much better and more valuable to the team than Wilson it's not even close. He's a Pro Bowl quality special teams gunner and leader as well as the fastest and toughest RB on the team. He's the one RB guaranteed to be active every week. Legit carries? How about his 7.7 yds per carry last season? How quickly we forget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJGIb2QcIDw

Mostert is my favorite to back up Breida. I am still a bit skeptical of Colman, but I've seen what Raheem and his *speed* can do in Kyles offense and I'm stoked to see Raheem play in pre-season. As for McKinnon - the fact that his knee is acting up is really disappointing. I just don't see him being 100% ever if he's still having problems a year later. Hope I'm wrong though. But my gut tells me most likely we're going to see a draft pick for a RB next year in the 3rd through 6th rounds, just like we got two WR picks this year in Hurd and Deebo once they let Garcon go.

Coleman is one of the fastest RBs in the league...he's a better route-runner and pass catcher to Mostert as well.

I'm in the other boat, I'm skeptical of Mostert being anything more than a great STer (which is totally fine).
