So much for him being a bad pass protector.

That receiving grade is from all players. Not just RB's as well.

I feel people are more worried about the $$$ than the impact. If he was signed for cheaper(haven't seen the details yet) I think they'd view this differently. I admittedly agree that the initial numbers seems pretty substantial.

He's actually a very good and willing blocker. As a 3rd down back he's terrific but I don't see him as a feature back which is what he is being paid as.
You know Goodwin had about 800 career yards in 4 seasons before he played for Shanahan.... System matters
Can't be that good. Dude only has like a 3-minute highlight video. He does have a controlled stride with a burst without being all jittery and choppy.

I wanted deion lewis...but I trust the process

They want the team to spend more.

They want the team to spend less.

Make up your mind.

McKinnon couldn't beat out peterson, couldn't beat out asiata, and couldn't beat out dalvin cook. This makes rb the highest priority now imo. I lived in minnesota the last 5 years you don't have to try to convince me he's good. I've seen him play at home in person and he's not.

We thought Sherman on two Achilles surgeries was getting $39.1M.

Nope...not even close.
I wonder if this precludes them from grabbing another RB. They've got 4 young guys on the roster now. McKinnon has the bag, Breida is going nowhere, and potato head Williams will likely get a shot. They've also got Jeremy McNichols.

McKinnon is a very good third-down, pass-catching and change of pace back. What he is not is a guy who can run inside and break tackles. In other words, he's not a feature back who can handle 300 carries in a season. I hope for the sake of McKinnon and the 49ers that the latter has figured that out.

4th highest paid back in football, a guy who can't handle a full workload.

Could you imagine what Leveon Bell is asking for now.

yes he can catch but had less catches than Carlos last year .

That's entirely about scheme and usage, and really doesn't have anything to do with ability.

The story of Carlos Hyde last year is that he's a RB who is not very good as a receiver out of the backfield who played in an offense which throws a lot to RBs out of the backfield; he's a good inside zone and power runner who struggles with outside, who was in an offense that wanted to run outside zone but due to the limitations of Hyde and the offensive line was forced to run a lot of inside zone.

Like Juice, I think it's insane to predict that Jet will be worth the money, but re: what the 9ers want their RBs to be able to do, he's absolutely better than Hyde in every way (even though I think Hyde is maybe a more talented back).
I Love Hyde as a RB, and was perfect for Harbaugh's smash mouth offense. I think Mckinnon is going to be great in this offense. He's a perfect fit, and the draft is still coming up and we can get a short yardage back.

Hyde just didn't look comfortable in Kyle's offense, and Kyle adjusted his offense to help Hyde out. I think that's where all the behind the LOS tackles happened because we ran the inside zone and some man blocking just to help Hyde out when the line was already shifting to the outside zone. I really like McKinnon's speed. When a back like that is on your team and can break the big one at any time, the defense really can't do exotic zone blitz stuff, they have to play sound basic defense. If the defense starts cheating one way or another, or loads up on the pass to get Jimmy, that's when back like this make their mark.

The more talented backs we have the better.

The same $20 million he's been asking for.

I have more questions about Richburg than I do about McKinnon.

The biggest negative on McKinnon is that he is not a creative runner. For all his speed, he doesn't make people miss. He's like Goodwin in that way. It's all straight line speed.

For that reason -- I think they will look to add a bigger (220+ lbs) RB in the draft to handle the stuff between the tackles.

In the draft, Penny and Ballage would complement this RB core extremely well.
