agree. we sent kendall hunter on his way and that guy did very very good things for us. this guy did nothing so its not like we lost this amazing playmaker that made amazing plays for us

AB81 said that cutting him means losing $2.6. Just IR him and make it a 2 year timetable to return from the time of injury. He's obviously not ready to return after this second setback. The backfield is in good hands imo. Thank goodness for the Coleman signing that came out of nowhere.

Agreed. Put the man on IR. Unless, his deal is structured so we can save cash against the cap by letting him go. I'm not familiar enough with his contract situation to know otherwise.

But, if we have to pay the man regardless, I say we stash him on IR until he's ready. Some knees take a full two seasons to recover from.

Remember that the first time Jimmy G. gets thumped hard in a regular season game.

Has something changed? You use to not be able to release a player that was on IR.

Like others, i feel bad for Jet, but here is one deal that didn't work out. Two yrs in a row...and he never got on the field...it was just a bad deal, so let's move on. It would be ridiculous to assume he will be fine after we wait for results of next surgery...or whatever. Move on. Not every signing turns out well...and this one is done. I don't fault anyone here, but it would be bad if we continued to hold onto him in hopes of his getting better. Ixnay....NOPE...and don't . Just move on.

Move on how though? I'm looking at OTC's cap on Mckinnon and they save nothing cap wise this yr (like $50k).

If they throw him on IR designated for return they can still recoup something from him down the road (if he actually can play) this yr. There's no reason to cut him at this pt.
Wonder if they wait on Jet like they did with Garrison Hearst for 2 years after his ankle injury. With Coleman and Breida, Mostert and Wilson, they could if they wanted to. Damn...

Wow awful. His body can't handle the surgery. This could be his new normal.

The issue is there's no benefit to cut him. He can go on IR designated for return and they check him out in 8 weeks. They don't save any money by cutting him at this pt.

How much after this season?

Yeah now is the time, i'm not sure how much money we will eat up next year or if we do at all but he's making too much money to not be on the field. Especially when we already have a nice trio with Breida, Coleman, Mostert. I think his Cap hit next year is something like 9MM?
Well. Basically he's done. Man that sucks.

The question now is IR for the whole season or IR designated for return

I think they should shut him down for the entire season. He'd have to be part of the final roster before being designated on IR with the ability to return. The 49ers have plenty of depth in the backfield anyway.

It isn't too early to mention, but there is no great reason too. He got almost all his money last year. Might as well stash him on I.R. and pray for a miracle. Never know it could pay dividends if we lose a guy and he finally heals at the turn.

Ummmm, NO!! We cannot do that anymore! We just can't. At this point this is just money thrown in a black hole. Yet again we're paying for the hope of potential ironing out. This cannot continue in perpetuity. At some point we have to cut bait. I wish him the best and hope he heals completely to play again, but I say that we move on now.

LOL.

WZ : This team wastes money.

Also WZ : Cut him, I don't care if we waste money.

Damned when we do, damned when we don't.
