But anyone who wants to feel bad for him and act like it's not his fault needs to remember when the staff asked him to wear a brace when he returned on August 6th and he refused. To me he incurs some responsibility for not doing what the medical staff told him he needed to do. Depending on how big of an issue it was I would consider taking it to arbitration if possible.

Also everyone who says cutting him helps nothing needs to think about the medical staff. They aren't going to fire someone because McKinnon gets cut. With all of our medical issues I would expect cutting one of the players likely consuming a lot those resources would free them up to concentrate on others that actually have a chance to help us down the road.

The medical staff that originally diagnosed it as a strained right calf and let him practice on a torn knee?

Currently we are $3,288,157 over the cap (https://overthecap.com/calculator/san-francisco-49ers/) Cutting bait with him now will put us at $1,150,000 over the cap, with all rookies signed.

Does it save today? No. Does it save in 2020? Yup!!! It pushes us up to $4,925,177 over our 2020 cap. That also reduces our total 2020 liabilities from $203,288,157 to $195,074,823; by my math that's an $8,213,334? swing in our 2020 cap favor.

I'm sorry Bro, but I say we cut loose of him now.

Currently? you mean next yr...

as long as they cut him before 4/1/20 (when money becomes guaranteed) it's still the same result. They have to pay him regardless this yr, I see no advantage of cutting him now vs putting him on short-term IR? outside if you want to use that initial roster spot on someone. IMO I'm fine with him on the short-term IR then when that roster spot opens up they just scoop up someone that was cut.
Yes, next year.

"It's a real bummer because he keeps getting to the final step," Lynch said. "And the final step is actually playing NFL football, especially at his position, where you got to make hard cuts and you have to put your foot in the ground. And we did it a month ago and we got to that step and he kind of regressed, and I would say yesterday we had a similar situation.

"So we're trying to get, really, what's the root cause of the problems he's having. And just because he's working through this, we're working through it, I'll leave it at that. But yesterday was not encouraging from that standpoint with Jet. What that means, we're not sure, yet. And we're working hard to find that out."
- John Lynch

I'm sorry, but that don't sound good to me, don't sound like there's any confidence he'll be seeing the field anytime soon. Knowing that he keeps getting to the final step only to have a set-back is pretty discouraging. It seems to me that he will never fully recover from that knee injury. Reading that I highly doubt that he will be available this season at all.

I know we have to pay him regardless this season. But for me I see this as a wash. On the roster he's just useless dead weight (hate to pt it in those terms). Off the roster we can at least fill his roster spot. I'm ok with IR, just so long as it's season-ending IR. No need to have him wasting a roster spot and then we're unable to resign promising talent because they got picked up. (Remember, we're gonna be cutting A LOT of caliber talent this season.) So I say cut, injury settlement, or at least season-ending IR (before final cuts).

IMHO
cut his ass! Do away like the patriots do their players. injury settlement, they even did that with J. Matthews who is a niner now

He isn't gonna agree to an injury settlement, he has a $2.6M injury GTD in 2020, he won't just let that go.

Again, Jet has a $2.6M injury GTD in 2020, he isn't getting cut, we'd lose $2.6M.
I really wish the kid from Rice RB Austin Walter could get a better shot. Dude seems like a stud. He is small but it seems like he runs between the tackles from everything Iv seen. They played him at wide out as well and I saw him make some great catches. Throughout the preseason he has showed some of the same things I see in his college tape. Who knows maybe one day he will get his shot.

I think he finds his way on the practice squad instead of Wilson.

I like Wilson too But personally I would like to see more of Walter. This final game will tell us a lot about where these younger guys stand in the eyes of the front office. Wilds has shown some flashes too but again I think Walter fits KS offense a bit more since he can motion out and basically be another receiving weapon.

Another veteran that may not see the field.
Another player milking our cap again for that retirement money, huh?

I was just saying that in another thread. Malcom comes to mind instantly.

sorry dude, I don't see it...he didn't have the brace last time he went out on the field earlier in TC.

Not saying he doesn't go on IR (good chance) kid hasn't really run in like a yr.

Still don't see it ??

They deserve every penny they can get in this business. It's not their fault when their bodies break down on them.

It's not your money and it hasn't prevented the team from acquiring other players at those same positions, so who cares what they are being paid?

This game is a total crapshoot when it comes to health. Jet was about as healthy as a RB can be after his time in college and his time in Minnesota when they signed him, so you can't even use the ol' reliable "Lynch signs injured players" b******t accusation you like to throw around.

s**t happens, and you move forward. Jerking off to constant cynicism only makes you look petty.

An ALC is a big injury. It takes a lot of time to heal up right. Two guys who have a similar injury will heal up differently on a different time frame. Biology is complex. It could be one small aspect that keeps causing a flare up or it might be a particular guys own biology that slows it ie genetics. Knees are sensitive and weight bearing. It does not take much. I would say he needs at least a few more months, maybe even six before he will be fit. But it is still an unknown. I feel sorry for the guy. It must be killing him. Hard decision for management.

So reality is cynical? We are just talking about truths.
