NY what do you realistically see McKinnon agreeing to in terms of restructuring? You are approaching this entire discussion from the standpoint that we can just throw a new price tag on him and he will agree.
IMO, I dont see any way that McKinnon would agree to what he is worth. Because honestly, what he is worth is a minimum salary. So what do you see as a realistic number we should give him?

However, I don't think Kyle is going to do this. I can't see Kyle giving up on a known quantity in Coleman. Okay maybe I can see him bringing in a FA, but that person needs to be better than Coleman and cost effective. Kyle is *not* going to risk his run game by have Mostert be his only proven runner. Brieda is in the house and McK hasn't been on the field in 2 years. Cut Coleman and rely on a rookie? Sure it's possible we do this but extremely improbable. If you want to save $ and a roster spot let Ward and cut Beathard - Beathard alone would save us just shy of a million for someone who never plays.
I mean we'd be relying on one of the best RBs this yr in Mostert. We all saw what he's capable of when he gets snaps. Hopefully Breida gets healthy and works on his fumbles. He's electric as well.
I got no problem throwing in a rookie to take some snaps. If there's one position that doesn't require yrs of being in the NFL to produce its RB.
End of the day it comes down to run-blocking and finding a guy who's played in a OZ scheme in college.
SF needs to push their money to places that are harder to hit on and harder to replace via the draft.
FWIW Coleman cost 5X the amount of Beathard. Cut them both.
I'd MUCH rather try to upgrade IOL In FA or keep sanders if it meant moving on from Coleman.

He's already said he is on board to restructure. He wants to play here and his market value is zero.
It would probably get restructure to a base salary of around $1-$2m with heavy incentives. That would save SF about $6-7M in cap space. And zero DM in 2021 as well.
No one is touching a RB coming off a knee injury who hasn't played in two yrs. he know this and SF knows this.
He gets a chance to get significant playing time on a Super Bowl contender. He gets an opportunity to get real money if he's actually healthy and produces. SF gets to free up cap space and move off him if he's knees are shot. It's not like a restructure like this doesn't happen.

LOL , Coleman did not get 5 million for just running though ... its other parts of the game that he is also great in. Pass Blocking, Catching, Route running etc. Why would Shanahan give up a proven player when you dont even know how Mostert will perform next year. Teams had no tape on him nor were teams game planning. If he is starting then you better hope him, Breida and Jet are playing well, because if not then there is not alot they offer aside from running. Again to put Mostert in the front and not have viable insurance is crazy. Youre putting two injury prone players behind him.
And thats the thing yall seem to forget Coleman didnt get 5 million to start, Breida was the lead back at the beginning of the season. He plays the Coleman role which not alot of players can do. There is a reason he is gettinc 5 mil. Not any rookie can just do it

The benefits for McKinnon to take a bargain basement restructure are:
1) He's a UFA in 2021.
2) He gets to play (and perhaps even star) in an offense that, at one time, was custom made for him...by the NFL's best play caller.
3) If there was a single situation...in the entire NFL...where McKinnon could recoup his value in one year...it would be with Shanahan and the Niners.
4) If not cut/traded, both Breida and Coleman are UFAs in 2021. The Niners absolutely have a 2021 need for a RB. And McKinnon would be well positioned to get another significant deal in 2021 should he stay healthy and perform in 2020.
If he *doesn't* take a restructure, he:
1) Risks signing with a team who will never consider featuring him (not a problem in SF)
2) Risks never recouping his lost value
To me, it's pretty obvious why McKinnon would agree to a minimum salary 1-year deal. That's especially true when the likelihood that he gets MORE on the open market is low.

Coleman caught 20 balls this yr for 180 yards. wow. How will we ever replace that? The whole he's an amazing route-runner/pass catcher is overblown IMO. Hell Jeff wilson can take the roll over just fine if need be.
He's an above avg pass-blocker sure...Jet was regarded as one of the best pass-blockers in football. Coleman has proven he's an avg RB. I understand you love him but he's on a team-option deal. Dude has zero guaranteed cash. This team has BY FAR more important players and positions that they can use that cash for.
No tape on Mostert? That's your excuse for Mostert playing well? What "tape" do coaches need to "figure out" a RB? It's all about vision/balance and speed to be successful in this scheme. All of which he has. Blocking is more important than "having tape on a RB" poor example there IMO.
I don't even know what you're getting at with that last paragraph. Coleman "started" pretty much every game he was in (when healthy). It's not even about who starts, but who get's the most touches....There isn't really a role with any of our RBs. They all basically do the same thing IMO.
Look at don't hate Coleman and I know you will defend him to the death lol BUT SF needs cap space and have proven then can get great production out of cheap RBs. it's the truth.

Couldn't agree more. He's in and Breida was in the doghouse. Fans don't seem to get this.
if anything they could keep the alleged jet cuz they plan to dump breida cuz he is not reliable. after coleman got hurt. i was paranoid vs the packers that mostert would get hurt and breida would come in.. i wonder how many fans had confidence in him to not fumble
Exactly. Currently this and the AA thread are just laughable almost right now.

He needs to agree to play for potatoes this year because we need that $$$ for AA and Ward.
I'm ok with losing Sanders since I suspect we will draft a WR since the class is so deep and Hurd is also coming back.

i would rather dump ward. use a top pick on a safety and sign sanders. we saw what we had with the wide outs before sanders

I doubt he will be. John Lynch already stated that they were done restructuring deals. I think McKinnon will be cut and re-signed to a prove it deal.
