Hyde > McKinnon

I am scratching my head over this one.

Hyde was a liability in pass pro. he took a lot of plays off. Shanny put in Breida many times after Hyde missed blocks.

The real plus for Hyde is he never fumbled, and was certainly a decent runner. But he was not very elusive, and he did not run with the power that you would think someone in that type of body would. He took WAY too much punishment because he could not, or would not avoid hard contact. Can't say I know anything about McKinnon outside of a short highlight reel, but that Shanny obviously wants him badly is enough for me for now.
He fumbled the rock 7 times over the last two seasons.

Hyde hardly a threat to break one. This dude can take it to the house and strikes fear in defenses!

The last thing people should be worried about is the contract. Paraag never gets fleeced.

I'd more concerned about this affects what they do in the draft. I like McKinnon's receiving ability, but he also occupies a RB slot on the team that could have been used in favor of a more well-rounded RB.

And this is my issue in a nutshell. McKinnon is basically a much upgraded version lf Breida.

The 49ers are still in a position where they largely need a fulltime back and a guy to hand it off to power through inside the tackles unless people are expecting them to go outside zone 99.9% of the time.

Juice is not that guy.

What about Joe Williams?

This is a huge overreaction. He hardly played until Cook got injured. He's way better and was more effective then Hyde as a receiving rb. Not even close. Hyde had way more opportunities then MicKinnon did last year and he only had 8 less catches and about 70-75 yards more then Hyde.

And coincidentally their run game fell off a cliff when Cook got injured and Murray/McKinnon got those carries.

Called it in my mock draft thread. Dude is a lightning quick beast and will delight all of you skeptics!

His 40 time at the combine was the mid 4.3's

Omg yeaaaay so happy
He will get 1500 rushing and 1600 receiving, pancake block 1-2x per game and make all pro x 2 first three years

Seriously I don't know what kind of drink everyone is having here... absolutely no questioning anything and saying in shanalynch/ maarte we trust ... and if someone questions the contract, everyone talks it's overreaction and give the excuse that we have so much cap space

Well we had the money because we had to purge everyone and start from scratch but now we are rewarding contracts like the money is too much for us to carry and just want to unload it ... I'd rather have given Norwell his 60 mill instead of doling out $30 to mckinnon

Not an inside runner either. With McKinnon, Breida and Williams they largely have three of the same guy at varying talent levels.

Knowing the 49ers, they can probably cut McKinnon after one season with no effect on the cap. With that said, I'd like to hear from posters who are actually familiar with McKinnon's play.

How is he an outside zone runner? Inside? Pass protection? Pass catcher? Would you feel comfortable with McKinnon and Breida getting the lions share of carries next season?

Outside zone: Not entirely known, but projected to be good
Inside zone: Not good inside generally, but better in inside zone. Overall, a below average runner in traditional sets.
Pass protection: Extremely good.
Pass Catcher: Very good.

For the love of god people stop looking at it as him being JUST a RB. he's a OW ( a real one) he's not gonna be a 1K RB he's gonna be a 1,200 line of scrimmage guy which is huge in today's game.

team him up with a Royce Freeman and we're gonna be very dangerous.
I took a look at Kyle's offense in 2017 Atlanta and took a look at Royce's draft profile, man I like the way you think!

Like training camp last year, they love to stack bodies and let the competition begin.

Cook is a generational talent...he makes up for a lot of sin in blocking and play calling. If you look back to when the Vikes line play was better McKinnon looks a lot better in the yards per carry dept.
He was serviceable on my fantasy team

#49ers running backs are fast. Real fast. Here are their pre-draft 40 times:
Raheem Mostert 4.32
Matt Breida 4.37
Jerick McKinnon 4.41
Joe Williams 4.41
Jeremy McNichols 4.49 (
Carlos Hyde was clocked at 4.66 but hurt hamstring in combine 40)
