Sorry guys, it's just hard to ignore those misses. He does get credit for picking those late rounders, but those are mostly luck. Belichick is garbage at drafting, getting lucky with Brady in the 6th doesn't change that. If he actually knew what he was doing there is no way in hell he lets Brady slide to the 6th. Same with Kittle, if Kyle knew what he was doing there is no way in hell he lets Kittle last til the 5th.

Of course every GM doesn't hit on every pick, but when you pass on Mahomes/Watson for Cousins and do things like trade up for Pettis and Williams, there is a huge problem. He didn't just miss, he made a fool of himself with some of those misses. Paying Jet what he did was another foolish move. His scouting is off. A lot of players he thinks the highest of end up being the biggest busts. That is a problem.

Even if I accept your many assumptions, the players you bring up almost all came in ShannyLynch's first draft. I think we can all agree mistakes were made in draft 1, and not just regarding offensive players. Thomas, Foster, Beathard, and Williams were all mistakes. But the front office learned from them. Is it a huge problem Deebo and Aiyuk are both ballers? Is it a problem Breida and Jeff Wilson Jr. both balled out for our team? Even KB has been a great find. Any claim that ShannyLynch cannot draft and/or acquire talented offensive players is unfounded at this point (Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, Jus, KB, Mostert, Wilson Jr., ect.) Even Mostert was on his way out of the league when Shanny decided to keep and develop him into a star.

It seems really your argument comes down to the Wilson/Mahomes point. Shanny chose the less risky move, by trying to build the team and bring in a QB who had proven he would run his offense. In hindsight, this was a mistake, as Thomas was not worth the pick and both QBs drafted are studs. Again though, it was a first time coach and first time GM's very first draft. They clearly learned from those errors and adjusted, which shows progress. And, we likely drafted the fourth best player in the entire draft in Kittle. The regime deserves criticism for failing to land one of those qbs. However, this does not prove that Shanny cannot draft offense.

This leadership has put together a hell of a team, as evidenced by our SB appearance and a level of competitiveness this past season despite having a historic and unprecedented number of injuries.
This dude will never live up to the potential. It takes three years, so he has two years to fully heal from his injury. By the time he heals, his body is going to be too old and will lose his speed, etc.

So are we going to ignore his hits too? Bill Walsh thought Gio Carmazzi was a FQB.

Some people forget ShanaLynch took over the 2016 defense which was the worst in franchise history. They wanted to fix the run defense issues first, that's why they picked Thomas and Foster and signed Earl Mitchell as a bridge for DJ Jones. 90% of mock drafts had the niners picking Solomon too so it's not like it was a Daniel Jones kind of pick where only the team FO hyped him. Unfortunately Solomon didn't fit the scheme and Foster was a train wreck. At that time Shanahan wanted either Kirk Cousins or Josh Allen in 2018, which was screwed by the Jimmy G trade and his winning streak, would've been better for the franchise if that never happened.
Since Shanahan took over the team has been competing in almost every game except when they are grossly overmatched. Even with Brian Hoyer they were competing. They established a winning culture that was nonexistent in the Kelly-Tomsula eras.
The draft is always a crap shoot anyways there's not sure thing.

Name one GM or coach in the history of the NFL that doesn't have a laundry list of misses in the draft and free agency. I'll wait.

He built a strong enough team to make it to the Super Bowl. Go away.

I agree Rich. I think what people forget is the risk of bringing in a rookie QB into a team that was completely lacking in necessary talent. This is exactly what happened to Alex Smith. The team required a complete rebuild, and they definitely wanted to fix the defense first. Shanny also had a plan for a QB (Cousins) and that plan was at least a good one. It's so easy to look back and critique the misses. But not withstanding these misses, our team remains highly competitive and talented.

Maybe Moon meant that Fournette, as a 49er, will be like Jackson when it comes to getting injured... he will get injured. Unfortunately, everyone gets injured here except for Kendrick Bourne
