McKinnon is a very good third-down, pass-catching and change of pace back. What he is not is a guy who can run inside and break tackles. In other words, he's not a feature back who can handle 300 carries in a season. I hope for the sake of McKinnon and the 49ers that the latter has figured that out.

4th highest paid back in football, a guy who can't handle a full workload.

Yeah, so what. He probably can take a draw play to the house from the 20 yard line. Kyle throws more than he runs the ball, point 1, and secondly, when the defense rushes Jimmy, you want a counter to that to slow the pass rush down, and I think this guy fits the bill as a screen pass RB and he has the speed to take tosses to the end zone. I agree, I wouldn't want him running between the tackles, that would be Juzkuzic's job, or somebody else we draft. But man, I can't wait to see this guy with tosses, quick hitters, and draw plays!
i have no issue signing McKinnon, I'll wait until we see how it's structured, most likely has incentives, cause $7.5M a yr seems like a lot for a guy who's never played 3 downs in the NFL. I'm guessing the APY comes in more close to $5.5M a yr(I hope anyway)

What a terrible signing.

All those other guys were full time backs which had defenses zeroing in on them. Nobody went into a game with the Vikings thinking "we gotta shut down their 3rd string RB."

Backup RBs often have a higher YPC than the starter for the sane reason. Let McKinnon get 20 carries a game and see how those numbers hold up.

Thanks brother
You have always been one of the best posters here and I appreciate your insights and football IQ

I don't think anyone on this forum said they don't like McKinnon as a player ... to make him the 4th highest paid RB in the league while only amassing 971 total yards from scrimmage last year however is questionable... Vikings drafted Cook (similar to McKinnon) and signed Latavius Murray while having him on roster btw

This is probably where PFF got their rankings for McKinnon.

Hate this move.

Hyde is a much more talented RB, wanted to be here, and took less than we gave McKinnon. People here complain that Hyde didn't live up to the hype, but few RBs in the league have under performed like McKinnon.

If you want to tell me it's about scheme and not ability, I will say that's foolish. But even if scheme really is that much more important than ability, take advantage of that and get discount guys who fit the scheme.

The only way this makes sense is if you truly believe McKinnon has quality NFL starter ability. If that were true, he would have capitalized on any one of his many opportunities to be that guy in Minnesota.

So, the fact that Hyde isnt a scheme fit and dropped more passes than any back in the league doesnt bother you. Think of this..... why was there a bidding war for McKinnon driving his price up while Hyde had to take 3/15? I believe its because Hyde doesnt have that great ability that you think he does nor is he a "much more talented RB" in todays NFL.

Let's see those numbers then.

And what if Minnesota never used him to his strengths?
Breida and McKinnon or White and Lewis?

I can see why people want a bell cow but we'll be fine. It's a passing league.

But guys! The FO is CLEARLY dysfunctional! You can see it by the fact that we've only heard of them agreeing to deals with two players over the last 48 hours! SHUT IT DOWN WE'RE DONE!!!
