The only area where he was noticeably better was vs Murray as a receiver. We're talking about 150-200 touches per back, so each guy had plenty of opportunity to distinguish themselves.

Dude when comparing RB, I look at YPA and they're identical. Murray gets goal line carries so I'd expect him to fall in the end zone more. Nothing really matters regarding running back stats outside of that.

No, the point is, resorting to that sort of ad hominem isn't an actual argument for or against anything.

If Bill Belichick hated the Mckinnon signing and Kyle Shanahan loved it, where does that leave us? There are experts with differing opinions on the same issue.

So, to say, "you think you know more than the coach" is a ridiculous argument, because there are other coaches who would likely be for or against the point.

What are even talking about lol you're complaining about paying a player $7 million dollars of money that's not even yours...go look at our current cap space and who we're paying. Nobody that's right.

They drafted poorly for yrs, lost all our old vets with bloated contracts, and currently don't have anyone worth extending...so they threw an extra $2 million more on a RB when they have a UDFA and a 4th rd IR player currently as the main guys. They can afforded to over spend a little.

everyone is overspending. Go look at every single WR contract it's f**king crazy

I don't know where to start with this.

1) overspending in free agency doesn't equal success.

2) Another tired argument "it's not your money, so why do you care." Bringing out the big guns, hey?

3) The fact that others are overspending is not an argument for overspending. It's simply a fact that organizations make mistakes in free agency.

4) Overspending on guys is how you create bloated contracts, but your arguing that because we haven't done it in a while and have drafted poorly, we should do it?

Moving on bud.

I like the signing not the contract. Why overpay him? I don't think we're bidding against anyone. His contract is on Top 5 running backs in the league and he barely averages 4 ypc. I know he can catch and all but not worth that kind of money.

There were four teams willing to give him the same amount of money that we were

Really good speed and hands but questionable vision and pass protection. I don't like what they paid for him. Would have much rather drafted a RB in the 2nd or 3rd rd....

We still may. taking a guy like Michel,Chubb,Penny or Freeman to replace the size we are losing in Los is still a viable option.

Reports had 4 teams competing for his services.

Reportly there was 4 other teams...also who cares about $2 million more per yr. it's not like SF is paying him $14 million a yr to begin with. We have a UDFA and a IR 4th rd pick currently at RB (both make no money) overall the RB position is pretty fine as far as money goes.

But they were. They didn't pay the guy that much because he has a nice smile. Look how much money Ryan Grant got. There are just crazy contracts being handed out. Its the cost of doing business in FA right now.

I am sure the 49ers will have some sort of exit ramp in place in the contract after 2 seasons.

i've seen 2.3 and 4 teams

They've got pretty much no one who can run inside or is good at picking up yards after contact at this point so I'd think its a an absolute necessity to draft someone who can handle inside zone, short yardage....etc.

I don't want to see a single one of these guys in a goalline situation.

FWIW, McKinnon averaged more yards after contact than Hyde and forced more miss tackles per rush and reception.

McKinnon is a top notch 3rd down back. What happens in 3rd and short and on the goalline? The Patriots definitely missed Blount this year and New England was able to lockdown that vaunted Falcons run game in the 2nd half of the SB to the point where Shanahan became hesitant in running it when he really should have.

Historically the main weakness of the Shanahan ZBS is short yardage and goalline situations where the field shrinks. Right now they don't have a single back I feel confident in being able to power through and get those tough yards inside.

Meh, what does it matter if you are able or not able to punch it in from the 1 yard line if you are ahead? Kick teh field goal, and just make sure you have a strong defense to shut down the opposing offense and move the ball between the 20's and absorb clock time and basically keep away until the clock runs out.

Decent little 3rd down back not really much of an upgrade over hyde. Still gonna need to draft another RB.

I'm not the smartest guy, but does this mean the RBs weren't very good because the team finished 21st in rushing (18th in yds/attempt)?

That's a very interesting stat because the eye test told me Tomlinson, Kilgore, and even Brown struggled run blocking.

Mckinnon is a far better receiver so the drops won't be there
