Still can't believe they wasted a top 10 pick on a slow footed mediocre tackle who can't play lt in the nfl

This. I don't love or hate the pick but at least we screwed the Raiders hard.

Like many of you, I would have preferred that the Niners trade down...but I do think that we need to look at the big picture here. Given Staley's age and T Brown's health / passion for the game, not to mention the strength of the defensive lines in their division, the team felt that they needed a reliable OT option. So, it was obvious that the team felt that this was a major need. He was also the highest rated OT in the draft....and, by all accounts a great technician, really smart, tough as nails, and a fine athlete. The Raiders would have taken him at pick 10 so he was clearly coveted by other teams.
The last thing I would add is this....both Lynch and Shanahan watch a lot of film and they saw that this guy would be a great fit for their team. They also love his passion for the game, his work ethic, his overall character, and clearly, his potential. At the very least, he is probably a really solid starter at RT for the next 6-10 years. He also has Staley's experience to draw upon.
Not a sexy pick for sure....but the team adds a solid player at a position of need.
Cheers!

Von Miller will get around him in slow motion, tie his shoe laces together so he will trip, then run after JG
So run right at him, and then when he is wore out, Jimmy will eat him alive with the play action.
My god, this kid hasnt even played a snap. We got the best T in the draft. Relax.

The #Raiders wanted a tackle. They were going to draft McGlinchey and when he was gone, they would have taken Miller 10th if no trade down, as @MikeSilver just said

That coin flip ended up being especially consequential.

They are willing to jeopardize the franchise QB for 2 yds. If Brown was in this draft with what he has shown so far he would be a top 10 pick. And they want to replace him with Gilligan or a 3rd question mark.Come on man!
Webzone gonna Webzone.
Phoenix... go read your responses back in the Trent brown thread..
Pass block out weighs runblock
We won't trade brown
Webzine gonna webzine
You change like the f**king wind and bash other people's views.

What's even more hilarious is that they were so pissed to lose McGlinchey that they didn't realize Arizona's fleeced them on their trade.
Ravens got a better pick than the raiders did from 22-16 than 10-15 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/s5enSweVMc

What other positions of need still had the best prospect at the position available?
Terrible value pick? So the best tackle prospect is now less valuable than the second or third best pass rusher or corner prospect? Seems some people don't understand the value of an elite tackle prospect.
I just dont see tha value of a "Elite RT" at pick 9 ... I understand we need O-linemen would have been happy if Nelson was there and tha pick but not a RT ...Everything I remember reading about McG was that he wasn't a NFL LT at least at tha start of tha draft process...

That's just it, with a sorry oline last year, JG was eating up some of the best dlines in the league... I don't mind the insurance and future LT if that's what he is. I just hope he'll be ready for our run at #19-0

Absolutely hated this pick in the moment. Wanted anybody but him, but mostly Landry. Wanted to quit on this team for screwing up a golden opportunity (especially after winning the coin toss).
But then I saw what the Raiders did. That basically validates this pick as not a "reach" by definition. And Landry is still on the board, so obviously my desires for him were wrong.
If we trade Brown tomorrow and get Landry out of it, this suddenly turns into an A draft for me.
Hopefully this dude is a franchise tackle for us. ND is known for producing OL studs.
