You change like the f**king wind and bash other people's views.

Its almost like its possible to update your views based on new information.

When the team started having visits with a whole lot of tackles it became clear that they saw the position as a major concern along with edge rusher and CB. By the time we got into April it seemed clear that tackle wasn't just a position they were looking at, it was one of their main priorities.

I thought that Brown would show up motivated in a contract year, get into his best shape ever, instead all you saw from him was a guy putting on more and more weight not less. I like him a lot as far as his potential but he's done absolutely nothing to make himself better despite all the opportunities afforded to him.

So no McGlinchey wouldn't have been my first or second choice, I was all about Roquan and adding him to the defense but when the Bears took him ahead of the 49ers, what was I going to do, cry over it? They still got a very good player and a guy who should be a starter for a long time for this team.

Hmm, I don't know...
Maybe What I expect a mod Not to do is bash other people's opinions who feel pass blocking is more important then run blocking, especially when you just said pass blocking was more important over and over in the brown thread as recently as a day or two ago, as you laughed at people who suggested trading brown..

But like you said, webzone gonna webzone

That's my worry for a draft day trade.

Okay, LOVE THE f**kING PICK!! I'm always stoked about using first round talent on the edges of the offensive OR defensive line. You can't have a pass offense without pass protectors no matter how quick the release.

We've taken Staley for granted. Let's just be real about that. 13 years starter with no major injury and HAS NOT been hard to re-sign and extend over the years. We've had a great pro for over a decade on the cheap. If there's a dire need other than EDGE, it was OT. Tackle really needed a serious infusion of talent. Staley has what TWO years left, maybe THREE? You never want to be in a position where you need an OT. And we're going to need two pretty soon.

I love it.
Really agree on the bolded. Especially when there's a franchise QB making big money. Protect that man with good talent at OT.

zone gonna zone

Agree! I wasn't fond of the idea of drafting an OG with the ninth pick but an OT who can start on the right side and then move left when Staley retires is well worth the pick. Nelson might have been as well. I wanted R Smith but...oh well!

Yea I wanted Roquan too! But I'm finding it hard not to like this guy. Also watched the video of the draft room and Kyle and John are excited so s**t, I'm excited too! lol

Why is McG as the future left tackle being ruled out? He seems to have the length. I would hope that an OT being taken top10 has LT potential.

This pick was all about Shanahan and wanting to fully open up his offense.
Why even reply?
I'm not a big fan of this pick at #9. I'm happy they drafted a Tackle I just don't think he is a very good pass blocker . I hope he becomes and pro bowl LT. Him and Garnett on the O line and nether are very good at pass blocking. I hope the couches can get both of these guy up to speed and both become future pro bowlers.

In which case I don't blame them for wanting to move on from Brown.

There was an assumption that he would come back motivated, especially with the success that the team was having, show up in shape and be ready to go, proved he deserved elite tackle money. It sounds like dude just went back to his default mode of "IDGAF" which led to him being a 7th rounder in the first place. So much talent but if he's not going to push himself, then he might not have a long future in the NFL.
Man, I really liked how he played last season. I honestly didn't expect us addressing the O-line until the 6th and 7th. But if he came in out of shape this pick makes a world of sense. I mean, given the expectations for this team (I'm expecting "worst-to-1st" for us), and the really good season he had last season, I'm just disappointed to hear that he couldn't do what was needed, with all that talent. Hell, Von Miller had honest praise for him. Just a shame.

Dude its a forum, its expected that people are going to debate. I thought it was a terrible idea to trade Brown when they had nobody else at the position beyond Gilliam. Acquiring McGlinchey, a high quality prospect that can start for a decade now means that you can move on from Brown. That is a whole other situation.

Not sure if you've been paying attention or not but I've been talking about the realistic possibility that they would go tackle fairly early for awhile now. I didn't believe it would be in the first round but it was clear that they didn't like something about their tackle situation and that was most likely Brown. Over the past week it became clear that they were actually serious about going tackle in the 1st potentially and you don't draft a guy that early and not have him start, combined with Brown being completely out of shape again and it appears clear that the team has had enough from him.

It was higher than I would have taken him. But you have to be some kind of in love with your own player analysis to "hate" this pick. Why? Because the internet convinced you somebody was better?

Speaking of couches, I yawned out loud (YOL) after the pick, then immediately fell asleep on my couch

I liked Brown's pass protection but the right side of the line just couldn't create holes for our RBs. Perhaps a better run blocker will even out the game and force the D to concentrate on stopping the run rather than stampeding toward the QB. Hope so! Lucky for us JG has a lightening quick release and the OL will benefit from this. If he had stayed in shape perhaps they would have gone elsewhere with the 9th pick.

McGlinchey earned PFF College's No. 2 offensive tackle grade in 2017, and No. 1 in run blocking

Dudes a beast man.
