I thought McGlinchey played pretty well.
His overall rating for the first week ranks him #14 among all tackles. Considering it was his first game back after a serious leg injury, that is pretty darn good.
The problem with MM is he seems to get beat at very crucial moments in the game and makes the same mistakes over and over. Not to mention this was probably MM's easiest matchup all season long. He scores high on PFF for run blocking but when you watch the film you'll notice he's very inconsistent in his run blocking angles, which wasn't nearly as much of a problem his rookie season.
I know he's coming back from injury and he can improve going forward but I don't think he should be a 49er next season.
It all depends on his level of play this year, how much it might cost to resign him, and the prospects available to replace him. Assuming this team reaches the playoffs as expected, we won't be drafting a plug-and-play RT. Given that the price of FA OTs is going higher (Sportac puts the average salary at $13M/), it is very unlikely we will be able to replace his level of play for less than that market price.
All that leaves it up to the pieces we have to work with now. We know McKivitz and Skule are not the answer. Moore? Brunskill could move to RT as he has in the past but he would not be an improvement over McG, IMO. If Burford moves out, that leaves a hole to fill at guard. We need a Center...and the snowball rolls downhill from there.
Our best hope is that McGlinchey regains his form and RT is not a big need next season.
