George Fant - 31 - 79
Billy Turner - 32 - 73
Ja'Waun James - 31 - did not play this year
Jawaan Taylor - 25 - 68
David Quessenberry - 33 - 67
Josh Wells - 32 - 48
Jermaine Eluemunor - 29 - 21 (only real comp to McGlinchey)
Marcus Cannon - 35 - spent the year on the couch
Ty Nsekhe - 37 - 34
Le'Raven Clark - 30 - did not play this year

Mike McGlinchey - 28 - 35 - if I counted correctly, McGlinchey is the #9 ranked RT.

Since nobody is going to trade us a starting RT, that leaves us with either McKivitz or a comp pick at the end of the 3rd round to replace Mc if we can't resign him.

See the problem?

Paying an average tackle lots of money is exactly the kind of decision that can set a franchise back - especially one which is a contender and doesn't have a lot of cap space to begin with.

McGlinchey is not an elite tackle but he is well above average.

THIS!

Very good run blocker and a hair better than average as a pass blocker.

If we can't replace him w/someone better - then let's keep him.

Any chance we might still see improvement out of him? Jimmy been playing a while and we finally saw some improvement from him this year - thanks in part to Griese.
Love the guy but he's a liability in pass protection. Regardless of anything else I expect us to draft a tackle that they can develop.
Awesome run blocker below average in pass protection. Not worth the $10 million per year he is being paid. We need to draft pass protectors to sure up our OL and train up others to watch our QBs back. This should be the big lesson from this season. Kyle must do more to protect his QBs.

McG will get paid, by us or someone else. If we let him walk we will get a nice comp pick.

What is essentially an early 4th round pick is nowhere near reasonable compensation for losing a top-10 starting RT.

Given that we still have a playoff-caliber roster, can the 49ers can afford NOT to sign him?

We can. 2nd contract shouldn't go to guys who have major reservations. It's gonna be a expensive deal and he's had some major medical. I would say let's move on. Save the 2nd contract for real dudes. Still stunned we let DeFo walk.

What "major" reservation?

He was playing the best ball of his career post-recovery this season.

He is one of the worst players on the team. Let someone else pay for the human rag doll.

No difference betweenhe and Kinlaw except he's sucked longer than Kinlaw has.

Above average tackles don't get rag dolled on every play like he does.
I am sorry to say that what I heard from media reports, the way Glinch cleaned out his locker indicated to me that he's gone.

Glinch haters can rejoice. It appears that even he knows he won't be coming back.
What do we think paying him would look like? Give me the years and dollars.

One thought, TW floating it out there that he may retire, makes the club a lot more likely to resign McG. Hard to watch both OTs walk out the door.

He's going to be paid more than what the 49ers can afford, similar to what happened with Laken Tomlinson. Except the 49ers planned well for Laken's departure (ABanks).

This is my concern. I am on record saying I like McG. I just feel he's gonna cash in huge with someone based on his age, draft status and a solid year, and the need league wide for that position.
Kaleb McGary gonna set the market if we had the cash he would be a huge upgrade.
why can't we move colton mcvikitz to the right side?

That's probably the thinking. If that wasn't the case, 9ers would have worked out a deal with McGlinchy before he hit free agency.

They have a bunch of young O-line guys that they've drafted. They even started a rookie LG this season.

Can't get much worse than MM

My best guess is you are correct. And, this will happen with more than just Glinch. We can't keep everyone. The 49er Rule, I mean Salary Cap, means we just can't keep everyone we want.

I didn't see a TV or video report, it was just audio. But Glinch had discovered something in the very back of his locker that he hadn't seen in years. The fact that he went that deep into it yesterday spoke volumes. To me at least. He knows he's going somewhere else. He would probably prefer to stick around. But your window of earning mega $$$ in this league is short. You've got to take advantage of it while you can.
