That's just too much.
He's an average to above average RT.

I don't know how hard it is to find someone who plays that that level but I also know I wouldn't want to spend that much on MM.

The thing is, he's a top 10 run blocker, and 32 ranked pass blocker.

Overall he might grade high but when we lost one SB and one NFCCG partly because the opposition sold out against the run and our pass protection couldn't hold - 16mil for that is a no from me.

Replacing him isn't simple, but that amount for him is pretty uncomfortable.

Just for comparison, of the top 7 RTs on their second contract, the cap hit range is from $24,5M down to $13M. McGlinchey will almost certainly be offered something in the $15-18M range.

It will be worth watching to see what the staff thinks of Colton McKivitz. His in-game sample size to date has been very small. Do the coaches feel he can replace MM? That will be the question. Obviously, there is a big risk.

He does.

FA contracs hardly reflect a player's quality.

You could get the same production in the run game and the same level of suckage at pass protection from a 5th rounder.

Too many bad memories. Props to him for coming back from the quad. Good job. Im not sure he will ever be the guy we need in pass pro though.

The main problem with McGlinchey was that he was over-drafted. People fell in love with Quentin Nelson and thought MM would be the same. He isn't. He was definitely worthy of a 1st round pick, just not a top-10 pick.

OTs are like cornerbacks. They can be playing very well but make one mistake and everyone sees it. Those are the memories we want to forget. In the meantime, he is about the #7-8 RT in the league and will get paid like it.
Thank god this guy is gone. I will give him credit for improving this year near the end of the season, but he has been horrible at best during his time in SF.

He has single handedly gotten our QBs hurt. I just hope JL & KS get the brains to build a solid oline with soldi backups for once and hopefully start understanding that free untouched rushers cannot be allowed.

Be careful what you wish for. We have NO ONE behind him with even a modicum of experience.

Of course, there is the other alternative and that is that you are just being sarcastic, not really serious at all.

Trent seems super confident in McKivitz. Colton seems to have the size and strength, and according to multiple guys made huge strides this year even though he didn't really play. I guess we'll see. He'll be much cheaper than McG, but that said, I'm OK if MM comes back at the right price only. If he doesn't, I have a feeling we know Colton is gonna be good to go and/or Moore will be developed by then.

He does suck. Anyone who throws down that kind of money will be disappointed in their return.

Not sure how deep the draft is but its time to put some draft capital in our OL.

Personally, I think it will be McKivitz. I read Trent's comments. I consider that to just talk supporting whichever way things turn out. I would imagine he and Mike have talked about it and Trent knows Mike isn't coming back. Certain comments MM has made in the past indicate he knows what some fans are saying about him and he is ready to move on from that. MM has been a stand-up guy, always took the high road. He will get paid and his family will be well set for the future.
