Having Burford or Brunskill move out to RT seems like an interesting idea. We could draft a tackle in the mid rounds to develop and save some money in the process.
We might definitely do that but I'm not so sure of a mid round tackle will be good enough. The odds are definitely against it

The 32nd pick in the first round seems like where we will draft a tackle or a safety in next year's draft

Burford time
With his long arms and athleticism he could probably do a good job at RT we will see. Brunskill or Poe can battle at RG if that's the case. Even rotate Poe in like we did this year with Burford
Poe is so damn quick, he'd be a great guard. Best pulling guard in the draft imo.

Kyle has said he preferred to keep Burford inside although he was a tackle in college. Brunskill has played outside and done well quite well. He is an option.
The history of drafting mid-round tackles and expecting them to be more than a journeyman is not good. I recently looked at the top 50 OTs according to PFF and only 7 were drafted in the 4th round or lower. So...it is possible.
Yeah, but its not zero. I think Foerster did a great job finding some UDFA talent and also developing the talent on that roster this year.
A third round offensive line pick on other teams may be a bust but here, with Foerster, that could be a diamond in the rough.
I hope ShanaLynch does devote some of that 3rd round crop to the OLine and specifically the right tackle this year.

Agree with this.
Brusnkil might be the guy. He has never really had a chance to become the designated RT because we have needed him elsewhere as MM was less of a worry than the interior. With Burford having a year under his belt, there may be fewer questions about the interior so Brunskil could move out. It has been a while so I may have rose colored glasses with regards to Brun at RT but if memory serves he consistently did well.
MM is frustrating at times but was too good to voluntarily move on from under his rookie structure. Bird in hand thing. Free agency obviously forces a shakeup but I'm not worried just yet. (Ignorance is bliss)

He definitely did well and the team would be wise to give him work at RT. Between Brunskill, Moore, McKivitz, and a rookie, I think we should be okay at RT. Burford taking another step will help immensely.

Given that we don't have glaring needs ar most positions and RG, RT, DT, and FS are the only positions where a rookie could start, I think we can really put a high level of focus on those positions. Going to be interesting to see the approach.

His exit interview was a little disturbing. He kept saying how he's a great player and he knows it. Does he watch his own film? I know he played a lot better during the last eight games of the season however, he reverted back to his old ways in pass protection in the playoffs. Great player my left nut

Well that left nut is about to make a whole lot of money. You might talk to the right one and say you should play like the left one and get paid too.

Reasily check is coming when free agency hits. MM is going to be paid.

For sure he is going to get paid probably close to 15 million per year from a desperate team like Chicago or possibly even Miami but that doesn't mean he is a good tackle. He's poor in pass pro and good in run blocking.
Cost us a lot of yards/points but at least he had a good stretch of play to end the regular season. Not the case for the playoffs
I still want Brunskill at right tackle or put Burford out there with his long arms and he played that RT position in college (along with guard and LT)

Tom Compton was good at the run and poor in pass pro. McGlinchey is average in pass protection- probably ranked in the 30s as a tackle. You aren't getting 15 million as a poor pass protector.

It's certainly something when the best option at RT going into FA is McGlinchey.

Now that the season is over, I did an overview of the OTs around the league. It is a given that all teams put their best player at LT. That is reflected in the basic PFF ratings of 81 OTs that played a minimum number of snaps. 30 of the top 40 OTs are LTs. Of those 10 RTs listed in the top 40, McGlinchey is #10 although ranked #35 overall. IOW, he is in the top 1/3 of RTs.
His obvious weakness has been in PP. Although he improved as the season progressed, he was still getting beat by the top edge rushers. Some of the problems seemed to come from lack of coordination between him and the RG, usually Burford. Some of it was him not winning. We need better play on that side of the line. The question is all about where are we going to get it. Can we assume MM will continue to improve next year? Resigining him for market value will not be cheap. Average annual salary estimates begin at $10M/yr and go up.
With no picks this year earlier than 3rd round comps, all the best OTs will be gone before we pick. With our penchant for getting QBs hurt, we can't just plug someone in and hope for the best. We need someone at least as good as McGlinchey or better. The FA market is limited. Of the decent RTs that will be on the market come March 15, they are going to be at least as expensive as MM, or higher. That leaves us with in-house solutions or getting lucky on a lower pick. Everytime I look at this, I see McKivitz as the best option but he is very inexperienced. I'm not encouraged.

By PFF ratings, he is just below average. There are far worse RTs that were starting this past season. That is how Hassan Riddick got his numbers.

Andrew Wylie, Chiefs' RT, is a free agent. He shut down Haason Reddick last night. Good chance he ends up being the most coveted T.
