lol really? And how do you know this?
why cant he play in the nfl again? he was the top rush blocking OT in the nation and #3 overall. brown cant run block and staley is old. solid/necessary pick. i woulda loved taking james or fitzpatrick but we already have two safeties so that wasnt necessary either

Protecting a franchise QB is never a bad idea so I get the idea behind the pick. Two time team captain at ND so he's a leader type, don't have to worry about commitment or off field issues. I don't like that he's already 24, but not sure if he just turned 24 or what. Either way, OT is a position where being a true technician at the position can allow a player to play at a high level into the mid 30s. Not to mention he probably fits the skillset to execute in the run game.

We're just trading brown for him. No improvement.

What is wrong with keeping Brown until his contract is up? Dude is still cheap, and he could come in for Staley or McGlinchey if there's an injury. Unless you'd rather have Beadles do that again.

Brown cant run block or move with the play. Huge improvement. and we would of ended up needing two Tackles in ayear or two anyway o we have a leg up on the rebuild. solid pick

I was hoping for the guard in round 2. Still a chance it could happen. Hoping that somehow we can pull out Evans (unlikely) or get some other help at LB.

Guard? we have Beadles, Garnett and the new guy from Dallas.. lets go WR.. or Pass rusher. we need someone to get after the QB really bad!!
And I don't trust a single one of them. It's one thing if all those guys were battling for one starting spot, but to pick two guys out of that bunch? Eh. As for getting a pass rusher, I'm with it. That or LB in round 2.

So many experts in here. Criticizing a top 10 prospect taken at 9 that is a great fit for perhaps the weakest unit the team has (OL)?

Once again I'm right. I argued with guys (NY and Genus) for a year about Kaepernick.

I argued with guys for a year about Trent Brown and how he is a horrible pick.

I argued about Solomon Thomas and taking a DE 3 years in a row.

And now I was the first person on earth to mock McGlinchey to the Niners days before the hype came out.

Brown was a bad 7th round pick? I'm not unhappy to see him go, if that's the case, but he was an excellent pickup in the seventh.

From Bob McGinn.

1. MIKE McGLINCHEY, Notre Dame (6-8, 310, no 40, 1): Started at RT in 2015 and at LT in 2016-'17. "He'll be a good pro," said one scout. "He's just steady. Know what you're getting. Nothing is great. Everything is really good. He'll be a better right tackle but he can play left. Intangibles are through the roof." Led tackles in the 50-question Wonderlic intelligence test with a score of 37. "He's a great kid," said a second scout. "He acts like a CEO of a Fortune 500 company. He's not a devastating left tackle but he gets his man every time." Arms were 34 inches, hands were 10. Those measurements represent good, not great length. "When he went against somebody good he wasn't that impressive," a third scout said. "He got exposed against Georgia big-time. He was probably just OK against (Harold) Landry and Boston College. I went back in the last two weeks and watched him. There's some things he does well but, wow, he is nowhere remotely close to an (Jonathan) Ogden or (Tony) Boselli or Joe Thomas." From Philadelphia, where he was an outstanding prep basketball player.
I don't mind the pick too much, but at #9? Why couldn't we pull the trade back that Oakland or TB got, Mcclinchey May have still been there, but hey, I understand we NEED a tackle. I hear nothing but good things, that his floor is a long term starter at RT. I can't complain too much. Let's go

He can play inside this year, can't he?

Huge improvement when it comes to the run blocking aspect. You go from a guy who is largely immobile on the move to a super athletic tackle that goes well with Kyle wants to do in the outside zone.

I was just listening to Kyle and he said his running game starts with the C and G's but that it's very hard to find T's esp. these days. It's the right thing to do. I'll never complain about getting better on the OL esp. now that we have a FQB. Now, go get a premier C/G in this deep class.
