But muh draft board?

Stuff like this is so funny. This is why fans need to stop with the "we didn't need to select him that high!" nonsense. First it started with McGlinchey and soon after we see that Oakland clearly wanted him at #10. Now we also see that Pettis had no chance in hell of falling to #59.

thats why you don't rely on espn big boards lol. You'll get angry.

People get way too attached to the internet draft boards.

If the 49ers had taken Harold Landry with Pick #9(went in the 2nd round), Simmie Cobbs in the 2nd(went undrafted), Ejiofor in the 3rd(went in the late 6th), this place would have been overjoyed.

He didn't say Pettis was ranked 2nd.

Dude drafted a punter in the 5th

He actually said that their second choice was Pettis in the interview.

And what is wrong with drafting a punter in the 5th? Sam Martin was drafted in the 5th and has been one of the best, most consistent punters in the NFL. NFL.com had Scott going in the 3rd to 4th rounds.

This punter class was one of the best ever.

That's hella funny... But so true,

And untrue just enough to give us guys like AJ Jenkins. ( i like pettis as a potential starter in Garcons place year 2 for the record)

But yes, for the majority of picks, this is the case.

So draft boards are dumb until you need one to prove a point?

Exactly. So annoying when fans act like they know exactly where players will get picked. If you like a guy take him, leaving him on the board is a risk. Also, these guys have a lot more intel than us
Alexander & Jackson

GB is nasty at db

My point is that you don't take internet draft boards as Gospel. The instant that Pettis was drafted people were complaining how the "draft boards" didn't have him that high and what a huge reach it was and then suddenly it turns out that another team was heavily interested in him, picking right after the 49ers.

Its fun to look and make mocks and stuff but when it comes down to it, as fans we have a highly incomplete picture of the situation. Landry is a perfect example. Most people were ready for the team to draft him at #9, he fell completely out of the 1st round altogether. There were a lot of favorites that went 3 or 4 rounds after what people thought was a good range to draft them.

The bigger picture people miss, is that EVERY board has hits and misses.

Well of course but are your odds better or worse when you have access to player medicals, player interviews, player workout sessions, Wonderlic scores, personality tests....etc?
seems like the only knock on this guy was his build. With NFL weight room training, that can change over an offseason.

I cant wait to get this guy on the field. Will be our true returner since ted ginn and will be even better~

Can lineup outside and in the slot. Runs fantastic routes.

Whats not to love?
