Dante Pettis is a Great Pick, in fact if we don't trade up to 44 Packers were locked in at pick 45 to take him. Great Job moving up for him! GAMECHANGER

How? Reed was a punt returner?

The guy is Julian Edelman with a black parent mixed in.

Glad to see everyone is getting his/her troll accounts setup early this season.

How's about this one?

"You take the best possible scenario. Everybody wants, I always joke around about it, but as a receiver I hope to find six [Atlanta Falcons WR] Julio Joneses who can give you everything. That's not going to happen. You've got to find what the best options are. There's lots of ways to do it, but you have to find out what characteristics makes someone successful and when you do feel that they have certain characteristics, then you've got to think of, 'Alright, how can I put a scheme together that allows him to use those traits?' And, does he have the players around him to allow him to use those traits? That's how you start to package things together. You don't just get to build your player like you want on Madden how it goes. You've got to see what's out there. Everyone has different things and you rarely get the full package. If you find a guy who has the full package, then you do whatever it takes to get that guy and you don't think twice about it. But, that's easier said than done. There's not many of those people on the planet."

I am sorry, it doesn't do anything for me.

What I do know is this, we haven't had a true No.1 stud WR since TO who incidentally was also a "big" receiver at 6'3" and 224 lbs. I am not the only person in this universe who wants that. That is what a lot of 9ers fans want!!

I am sick and tired of seeing wasted picks, be it from the last regime to this current regime.

What is it that is so great about Pettis? Just because the guy can return kicks? Why has the focus all of a sudden shifted to find a jack of all trades type WR?? We need a true No.1 WR who can be a match-up nightmare and score for us in the red zone. A weapon, a lethal one at that!!

I have waited very patiently for the organization to find that WR, but they just can't get their act together. It is both disappointing and frustrating or let's just face it is pretty much hopeless.

So tired of fans who only want a big WR in the mold of TO.

Looking at the past few super bowl winner none of them have had that guy. Plus who was that guy in this year's draft?

the guy has really good hands. a good route runner. and can is a returner. he has a big enough frame (just a little more muscle needed) to play all reciever positions. it might not seem like wr is need, but it is if one of our guys is injured which is highly likely for 2018 season.

for those of you wanting a no 1 wide reciever....most overrated thing in the game. u need a stable of good pass catchers with good qb play. the rams, seahawks, pats, eagles, Vikings, packers, have been successful with this and some of those teams have been doing it for a while

yes there are exceptions out there. like antonio brown and julio jones (no rings btw)
someone who commands the ball and a huge contract is not the best thing in the world. i rather have this guy who can play any receiver spot

Just to back you up with the obvious: Antonio Brown is 5'10" about 185lbs and was a 6th round pick. No-one would have let him slide to the 6th if they knew how he'd turn out.

Size means nothing when it comes to TD's.

BTW Pettis has 22 receiving TD's over the past 2 years. Is that not good enough for you?

I'll say this: If Miller stays healthy, he's going to be considered for Canton some day.

Pettis...is going to be out of the game within 7 years.

The pick is growing on me. After 2 returns for touchdowns, I'll be like ahhhhh worth it

While I do agree there were other priority needs and we probably didn't need to trade up for him...really cool to see a local kid make it and get drafted by my team!!!

His Mom teaches at my kids' grade school where Dante also attended. Then he went to J Serra High School here in San Juan Capistrano where my kids are planning on going.

If you like HS football, check out his J Serra clips too.

It's so easy too. Like 1 is drafted every few years and 10ish exist in the league at one time. (this is sarcasm)

Get this, I didn't say it, but even our very own HOF wide receiver or more commonly knows as the GOAT Jerry Rice himself wanted us to draft Courtland Sutton who is 6'5" and 218 lbs because he wanted to give Jimmy G a legit weapon on the outside. I am pretty sure Jerry knows a thing or two about WRs. Just a rough guess. LOL.

Also, get with the program, Pettis' instant draft grade given by the analysts, wait for it, is a massively impressive "B-"!! LOL. I didn't grade him, the experts did!!

Plus, to top it off, let's face it, Lynch panicked, we didn't need to trade up to get him.

Lol yeah Jerry rice is a GM and scouts talent...crazy a WR wants SF to draft a WR.

Dude stop acting like you have any clue it was a reach. Show me every single teams draft boards then I'll listen to your advice on draft value

It's funny because he's complaining about a red zone threats yet Pettis had 22 TDs the past two yrs. Julio Jones who we would all love to have had 14 TDs under shanny and has one season with 10 TDs. Jones hasn't been a true red zone threat his whole career.

Nobody has any idea how a player will pan out. Reaching back a number of years here, but I remember the experts and fan roast the 9ers for passing on J.J. Arrington and taking Frank Gore.

Also, every year you hear fans and expert alike clammoring for a player like he's the 2nd coming. Ronnie Brown comes to mind, Reggie Bush, Michael Crabtree, etc. The list can go on for days. Just wish people would let the season pass before talking trash about these kids. Hell, JERRY RICE looked like a bust midway through his first year.
I have faith in Shanahan he knows what he wants in his offense and he saw Pettis as a player that fits what he wants to do. He wanted him bad enough to move up and get him so i have faith in the pick. I see Pettis making the 53 man roster and contributing in the return game and on offense they will get good production out of him so not sure why some people are mad about the pick.

This. I really think people are going to eat crow on Pettis. His route-running and hands alone will make him productive in this offense.

Agreed. I get the impression, that is the long term plan. But for now, he'll learn all three WR positions and move all around as a chess piece.

Chess piece.....yes. Pettis could be like the queen on a chess board, with the versatility to move in any direction making him the most dangerous piece on the field, just like the queen in chess. Playing outside on either side, the slot, punt returns. Can run the short, intermediate, and deep routes and get open and separate. Can't wait to see this guy in space and Jimmy hitting him in stride for some major YAC.
