Was wondering why his only highlight was his trick play, Deebo is killin it out there tho
Can someone link to an article that says that Pettis came to training camp out of shape. I don't remember reading anything about that so I did a Google search and could not find anything. I get the questions about his attitude, but I'm perplexed about these "out of shape" comments.

It was an announcer talking out of his ass. The average zoner is way more knowledgeable about this team than an announcer. If you pay attention the color guy will often say weird not quite correct things about us.

I dont know what is going on with Pettis but I'm pretty certain it has nothing to do with him being out of shape. If it was Barrows or Maiocco woulda reported it.

He very obviously got it from Shanahan in the pre-game prep.

That's possible but it isnt "very obvious". Shannahan has been a straight shooter since he's been here and we havent heard one word about Pettis being out of shape. But now Shannahan spills the beans to the announcing crew before a game. I doubt that.

Yeah, possible but not obvious. It seems just as likely to me that the announcer mixed up Pettis with someone else. And, as you said earlier, if he did come in out of shape "Barrows or Maiocco woulda reported it". There's enough to critique Pettis on without bringing up things that aren't likely true.

I'm thinking [probably wrong] that it is his attitude.

Richie is also a good returner and has decent speed and has actually produced this year, so Pettis has competition and I can see him be deactivated if he doesn't step up his game. And I agree - it's his laisez-faire attitude that is probably ticking off Kyle.

Did you see him helmet bumping Goodwin in the endzone on that early TD? He didn't look very laissez faire to me.

It was mentioned on the game broadcast against the Bengals. First I had ever heard of it also.

It's not real. The broadcaster mixed up him with Deebo who did have to work extra hard to trim down. BUT, the commentator did say Pettis was in Kyle's doghouse big time.
My mistake. Pettis was fake punching Mostert in the stomach in the EZ after Mostert's big screen pass TD. Not Goodwin

Thanks. Just watched it and he was clearly talking about Pettis being in Kyle's doghouse.

I can easily believe that Pettis is in Shanahan's doghouse big time (although "big time" is pretty vague). It seems pretty evident to me that Shanahan is saying "show me". But he's also saying "I believe you can do it if you decide to do it". I think in this last game Shanahan had him do the "dirty work" and what he was looking for was for Pettis to show him that he (Pettis) would play every dirty work play to the best of his ability. If he did that - or reasonably close to that - then Shanahan may give him more opportunities to be the target or least a better potential target if JG feels like trusting him enough. It's a bit of a crunch time for Pettis. He's versatile and talented enough that he will probably always be worth keeping dressed for games through at least his rookie contract, so if he doesn't show enough to Shanahan to get targeted more, I think he'll still be in at least a limited rotation. I guess we'll see where his passion (or lack thereof) takes him.

I still have faith in Pettis. I think he can be an elite #2. Gotta snap out of this though.

Maybe they didn't want to or couldn't. Its 2019 in santa clara cant be fat shaming any more.

maybe pettis just assumed he would be the big dog or cat. then we drafted two kids and deebo has earned a spot and is out playing him,,, and he can not take it mentally.. could be that simple.. it is looking more and more like nc was right all along about pettis. when taylor and hurd come back. then the screws really tighten up on pettis

well as of today. he needs to leapfrog deebo and goodwin and most likely james. and then taylor and hurd come back. it is going to have to step up mentally and physically

I meant (even though I didnt say it) in the long run. I definitely dont mean 2019, with how this has started.
I'm pretty confused to because Pettis definitely produced when he was given the chance last year so I just don't understand why they're not giving him more snaps
he was in for two snaps in the Tampa game and caught one for yards...
more then some of the players have done.

To play devils advocate, someone being skinny or slim looking doesnt necessarily mean the person is in shape. One of my best friends, who is 6'0, 150 pounds is in the worst shape of anyone I know. You dont need to be fat to be out of shape.

(not saying Pettis is out of shape, just trying to play the other side)
