Pettis had the most snaps last week (tied with Goodwin). He played just didn't get targeted.

When Kyle wants to feature a player in the passing game, he schemes that player open and makes them look good. Yes.I understand that player's still need to execute. However, He mostly made Kittle and Pettis look good last season because that is pretty much all he had. Also, Kittle is a monster at getting yards after the catch.
Fast forward to this year and Kyle has more weapons that he can now feature. Deebo and Hurd are his new toys and will likely be featured quite a bit early on. The difference between Deebo and Pettis coming into the season may have been Deebo's toughness in run blocking. Pettis will be featured in the passing game at some point this season, especially when we need to beat man coverage. A couple of the negatives for Deebo coming out of college were not being able to saparate from his man and getting out of a jam at the LOS which was on display against TB.
We saw Pettis limited in week 1 because of a groin injury. Week 2 he was given the dirty work in the run blocking role. IMO, he excelled at that and may have given Kyle the confidence to leave him out there on running downs as well as passing downs. Which we all know how well Kyle schemes up running plays that open up passing plays.
We don't need a #1 wr, we need wr's who have the mental toughness to play in the passing game as well as the running game. Also we need guys that are team first and are not worried about padding stats for the fantasy geeks out there in football land.

It's almost like a Bill Belichek approach to wide receivers (and possibly other positions) with how KS will use guys.
