I should have read this before posting.

Part of the issue with losing your two starting tackles is that evetything has to speed up in your pass game. The sorts of longer developing pass plays that would benefit outside receivers are mostly gone and now you're looking far more to your TEs and RBs in the passing game.

It helps to look at everything in context and as Staley and the rest return, with the addition of a guy like Sanders, opportunities will expand for both Pettis and Deebo.

Good post and totally agree.

I'm not exactly sure how ES eating into a huge chunk of his snap counts is going to help Pettis in any way unless it moves him to the slot more permanently and Deebo to the Z where both players can just focus on one position more and the nuances within those positions.

Kyle's already given Pettis the most snaps at 231. He's got the love of his life now in ES. You can bet that after these first couple quick turn-around games, ES will become the featured receiver now. Pettis more than got his shot to shine 1) getting the most snaps and 2) being featured the most. His time is likely over for that role.

He was brought in to be an upgrade. When the guy you're upgrading has 9 catches for 81 yards I think that will be worth a 3rd. But as far as being the #1 he may fall a bit short on that.

I hope Emmanuel takes Pettis under his wing and shows him what it takes to be a real NFL Professional Wide Receiver

In the interim, he could always help here too.

Excellent point!! So lets go hard after Amari Cooper when the season ends and draft a WR in the 2020 draft. This is still a playoff team without consistent play at the WR spot. Lets admit what we have in Pettis - potential with flashes and nothing more. Potential with flashes get coaches fired. As I stated when we drafted him, I saw him as no better than a slot WR. Pettis WILL NEVER be a consistent outside WR. He's too soft and obviously not into getting into the gym. He has to be schemed open. And, post-draft we've learned that he lacks focus.

I admit, I NEVER wanted us to draft Pettis, I admit a particular bias. But didn't want us to draft for many of the reasons that we are seeing now. I had a 4th round draft grade on him, and to this point we've gotten nothing but 4th round production - we moved up in the 2nd to get him. As we speak the team is openly on the market for a WR. How can this not be anything other than an indictment against Pettis given the expectations?

I'd love nothing more than to have to eat BBQ crow on this. Above all I wanna see the 49ers do well. But I don't see it ever coming from Pettis, not more than what we've seen. I just don't.

Oh, so YOU had him graded as a 4th round pick. That clinches it...

9 catches.

83 yards.

Jesus that is pathetic.

How many targets does he have, snaps don't mean s**t if the ball isn't coming your way.

Pettis hasn't done anything good/great so far. Speed is good, but this is not just a race, there needs to be a spark.

Can things change in the future, I guess anything can happen, including him being avg.

Go look at the game he had against Seattle in a losing effort last year.

Man, am I glad you aren't making decisions for this team.
Still better than AJ Jenkins though

My off season plans have been pretty good, thank you very much; certainly better than Lynch and he's doing really well.

But yeah, we're getting street FA production from Pettis right now hence the move for ES who's the accomplished veteran version of him. Now Pettis will have someone he can watch from the bench and learn from if he so chooses to be great. He certainly has the "ability."

You seem quick to blindly defend him. You don't know?
