I don't see why so many people are so polorized over a guy who is basically non-existent outside of having a roster spot.

I wonder how come he hasn't gotten a legit shot as a returner?
Isn't it obvious at the point bro?
He's soft and afraid to get hit by grown men in the NFL.
I wanted him to upgrade our pr game after all he is the ALL TIME record holder innNCAA history. Even if he's scared, he had bodies flying at him in college. It's not like 20-30 pound heavier bodies on average in the nfl causes him to be scared s**tless.
We haven't had a returner since Ginn. That's why I was exited about Austin
Nfl guys are just a different animal man. Pettis doesn't even look like he lifts weights. If the guy added some muscle and size maybe he would see himself in a different light.
The blue hair s**t doesn't help either. I'm sure players call him a f****t. He probably goes home at night with his kitties and cry's himself to sleep.
I think he's a metro-sexual - I don't know how he survives in an NFL locker room.
I dont care about his sexuality. I just wanted to see production. To me, and this is only my opinion, if the 49ers were going to cut ties with him, AT THE VERY LEAST, try him in a returner role, you know, the role where he was one of the GOATS in college. I'm not saying that Pettis would be successful in the role but the 49ers current returners are complete ass and cannot do any worse. They have literally nothing to lose by trying him as a returner. (unless he fumbles consistently)
I don't know if the returners are that bad. They just don't do much and last year people were trying to decide if that was Richie James not doing anything or Hightower's coaching of Richie James to not do anything. He mean he's an electric athlete. Of course, he's a 49er so he also hasn't stayed healthy.
Now Trent Taylor, also a 49er who doesn't stay healthy, yeah he's not going to do much as a returner other than catch a punt cleanly and get what's available to get.

His ankle on the other hand, legitimate.

and just as many excuses as to why he has done nothing to deserve a spot on the roster. kyles fault. jimmys fault. last year some blamed sanders, lol
Its puzzling to me how some players get all the excuses in the world (*cough* Jimmy *cough,* ) while others are fed to the lions despite having proven success at the NFL level (Pettis/Kap).
I really think there are some underlying biases that people aren't even aware they have. Its kind of a fact of life.
Kap has a bad game and sacked multiple times: Dude can't call protection at the line of scrimmage. He has no pocket awareness. Good QBs make their line better. His release is to slow.
Jimmy has a bad game and sacked multiple times: The line is trash. Jimmy needs more than four seconds to throw. Its not his fault he's got happy feet, his line wont block....
Sorry just venting on the inequities.
so far this season the only excuses I've seen and have used myself have been A. rust (i think idr) and B. his ankle.
oline has been trash almost all year except for the last game and maybe the Rams game
And to Oakland Niner, not sure if you intended for this to be conveyed, but it sounds like you are indicating that Jimmy doesn't have proven success in the NFL. He has the same amount of success as Kap does in the NFL at the moment.
What I didn't like was that he subtly or not so subtly indicated that people were racist or had certain prejudices because they make excuses for Jimmy but wanted to bury Kap and Dante because of skin color.
I mean, first of all, yes Kap and Dante had success in the NFL. But they had brief, initial success and then seemed to get progressively worse.
It's not like there weren't people making and aren't still making excuses for Kap, chief amongst them not the kneeling stuff that of course came later but that they changed the offense on him.
I mean, if your on field play declines you're going to get fewer opportunities. That's essentially, paraphrasing, what Kyle said regarding Dante last year and somehow I doubt his skin color had anything to do with it.
And yes, as far as Jimmy, number one does Oakland even see the Jimmy thread on here or the game thread comments? There are people who constantly complain about him and want to replace him. If it isn't for Mullens, it's for Matt Ryan. Or Sam Darnold for crying out loud. Or tank for Trevor Lawrence.
I mean the same logic could even be applied. Jimmy had great initial success here and was the talk of the league. Threw some picks still but 5-0 to close out the season. Energized the team. 49ers were a playoff team in 19 they said. Hyde said we would go to the Super Bowl. Then he struggles some after that initial success and it's excuse making that minimizes that or wants to keep running him out there while it's being prejudiced against Kap and Dante. Sorry, that's crap.
As far as "excuses" for Jimmy goes, in part it isn't because the criticisms and attacks are for the player as a whole and taken in the scope of what he does well and what might be a weak point. It's microanalyzing every bad throw and everything that he maybe doesn't do as well and saying we should probably replace him ASAP.
That subtle racist crap.... well I haven't walked in anyone's shoes and I'll try to leave it alone. But I think some people always need something convenient to blame or use an excuse so they don't actually have to be a bit more objective or willing to look at other truths themselves.

The hair is fine if you are producing on the field like OBJ or Metcalf, but when all you do is manage touchbacks not so much.

Imagine Jimmy having a 7 yard passing game. Talk excuses all you want

Exactly.
As been said, John Ross would be a perfect "trade-for" and he would be our pure burner

Sounds familiar, they are claiming he doesn't want to play.
Teammates, getting fresh starts elsewhere. Nice symmetry

Didn't we do this with AJ Jenkins? Traded him straight up for another fail? Who was that?

Well good morning to you too my friend.
I do think the issue with Kap was not direct racism, but a certain type of bias. Whether it had to do with race or the type of bias Kyle Shanahan has against QBs that can run, I don't know. I just never understood the nit picking and hate for a guy that took us to the NFC championship twice, with one near SB win. Too bad the Hawks had a HISTORICALLY good defense at the time and we had Michael Crabtree. But I digress.
Too me any starting quality QB could do what Jimmy is doing. On the other hand, very few QBs could have ran the team like Kap did for a couple of seasons. The comparison as to what they meant to their teams success is laughable to me.
Anyway, Pettis is a goof. He belongs in the NFL, but management doesn't like or respect him. Time to move on. I don't think the hate for Pettis is based on race, just blind allegiance to the organization. It's the same guys who defended the Tomsula hiring years ago.

Dude, where are you from, South Dakota? Colored hair is common in the NFL and GenZ culture. I'm pretty sure nobody thinks twice about it. Not my style, but it is what it is.
As far as the NFL a different animal. Sure. But everything your saying about Pettis' heartis pure speculation.

I'm with you - so, why hasn't Kyle made him solely a return man?
It's got to be bc he doesn't respect his play on the field as well as desire in practice bc no chance in hell it bc James Jr is good

True but these are 2nd and third string guys he's going against in punt returns. So they aren't starting caliber players most of the time. That isn't the reason imo. He needs to be our primary pr. I wanted Austin to be healthy. Almost every team has a more dynamic returner than we do. Stats may show we are middle of the pack in avg return yards but the fact is we haven't had a good returner since Ginn. It's not hard to find a good returner. Just let Pettis do it for the rest of the season of this week (trade possibly)
