Honestly looking at who got drafted after him (and before our Reed pick) the only guys that kinda made sense was Haynes (super small though), Sweat (who I wanted but bone on bone knee issues are real), Schutlz ( more of a blocking TE than anything)... Not sure any have the upside of Streets, but they could have found the field at least this yr.

Like you I thought they would have gone after Sweat and would have liked them to gone that way. Then as is the case, take a breath and you learn after the pick/draft about why players were not drafted who although they tested at the combine, may have degenerative issues/questions in their body-like Laundry and Sweat. Street we knew about the injury, so it made it harder for those who have Baalke flashbacks . They want players who are going to be on the field, which is not a given. If people recall, Williams was picked, but got into Kyle's doghouse. The same could happen to any of the picks. Even if they picked Obo or Sweat, there is no definite proof they would play, if they suck then as Lynch said someone has got to go.

Isn't this what they are paid to figure out? If the player can be replaced by a younger player. If not, why get them? Just to win a popularity contest? Last year I wanted Barnet, he didn't do much, but he was way more healthy and more consistently productive coming out of college than any of this years picks (Laundry Sweat, Obo). All we can do is playing the waiting game.

Last year we had so many holes that it was easier to make the team and get playing time, this year it is harder.

.

Yeah honestly this draft as far as talent goes overall wasn't very good. I think there was great value 2nd-3rd but by the end of the 4th it was getting a little rough.

Streets if not injured. could have easily been a top 100 pick especially if he could have done everything at the combine. Dude is an athletic freak for his size. We will see let the man heal and get him on the field next yr. No sense in drafting someone that's not very good and won't make the team in a yr or two just because he's not injured. We get certain players in our head based on the overload of draft talk/media BUT in reality we're just fans and don't know half of what these guys (who are making 6 and 7 figures) know.

College football's list of freakiest athletes...Streets was ranked 3rd

https://www.si.com/college-football/2017/07/07/freaks-list-workout-warriors-2017-part-3

3. Kentavius Street, DE, NC State

Street is the Freakiest athlete on the ferocious Pack D-line, which is the best-kept secret in college football. "They're the tone-setters for the team," said strength coach Dantonio Burnette. "These guys are super competitive." Bradley Chubb (22 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks) gets most of what attention that group gets, and he's a freak in his own right, clocking a 4.74 40 at 275 pounds. But it's time to get the word out about Street. The Georgia native arrived in Raleigh already quite the specimen, but he's worked diligently over the past few years to fine-tune his body and his game (as you can seen from this photo sequence).

Last year, Street had nine tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks as he started to emerge as a difference-maker with his refined technique catching up to his uncanny athleticism. This spring Street, at 6'2", 283 pounds, was timed in the 40 at 4.58 and 4.62. And Burnette says those 40 times are electronic times—not hand-timed. Street vertical jumped 40 inches, broad jumped 9'11", cleaned 400 and bench pressed 475 pounds. He is the most flexible guy in the NC State program, and despite his weight, he has the kind of agility where he could stand up and play outside linebacker, says Burnette, himself a former first-team All-ACC linebacker.

Burnette has worked with some all-world caliber D-line Freaks in his time from Mario Williams and Manny Lawson to his days at Pittsburgh with Aaron Donald, a guy who ran 4.68 in the 40 and verticaled 32 inches while weighing 285 pounds at the combine. Donald, an NFL star, plays with a mean streak. He thrives in the NFL because he has such great get-off and is excellent using his hands. As explosive as Donald is, Burnette says Street is even more explosive. "He made a huge jump last year. He started to translate the stuff he's developed in the weight room over to the field, and I think he's really gonna have a great year." The coach describes a play from the Pack's bowl game against Vanderbilt in which Street tossed a 6'6", 315-pound starting offensive tackle in the air with one arm. That's the kind of rare explosive power that's been honed from all those heavy cleans in the weight room.

"These guys [Street and his D-linemates] make strength coaches look good."

Man, we have to wait a year for this guy? He's got better physical numbers than Donald. Where does he fit on the DL?

Damn good question. That's for the staff to figure out lol. If he comes back 💯 we might have ourselves a gem. Our DL is gonna be fierce, just need some speed and bend around the edge.

that is nice for wishing and hoping for next year but does us no good this year. lynch needs to call elvis in my opinion and i hope elvis is still around in pre season when it will become obvious the eli thing will not work and aa is hurt or underachieving again

At some point a day 3 pick with the upside of Streets is actually more helpful long-term than any actual pick in the 4th (especially with who was available) who might not do a damn thing for the team at all. They had 9 picks not every single one of those guys are gonna be contributing day 1 for us. Gotta look past 2018 for some of these guys.

Go look at Frank Clark in Seattle what did he do his rookie yr? A bunch of nothing...fast forward to 2016 he had 10 sacks.

FWIW I'm down for bringing back Elvis. I think Lynch should try to get Shane Ray from Denver

Big end/6tech. Street is a three-down edge. He'll never come off the field. Twitch and power off the edge with violent hands.

That is if he comes back 100% healthy.

I'm starting to watch film of the defense in more detail focusing on fronts and such. One reason I think he's very attractive to our team is the versatility it provides at the BE spot.

One thing we did against JAX to counter all of their power run scheme was to run a couple fronts against it. A 4-3 "over" and "bear" fronts. The "bear" (after da Bears of the 80's) stacks d-lineman on the interior of the line so you cover up the GCG. This means you have to have a stout BE as he's a player line up against the G on the strong side of the formation who could take on a double team downblock of a G and T - though then your 3 tech on the other side can follow the guard down the line unless it's all downblocks. If your BE can hold up in that spot on the interior it makes it nearly impossible to run any power run against that front.

In the 4-3 "Over" your BE is going to be playing solo on that side like a LEO but on the strong side of the formation. You use this front against heavy zone teams that take advantage of the weakside bubble. But, it's reliant upon that BE taking on a double team on the edge. When Seattle would run the "over" front they put Red Bryant - the normal NT in the BE spot.

Thanks for this! FYI I voted for defensive scheme/fronts in your poll

I was pissed at the pick as soon as it happened but I'm really liking it if he comes back healthy. Solid risk reward in day 3 IMO
What those fronts look like and the spots where Street might fit highlighted:

"over" front with S. Thomas playing the LEO spot. I meant to highlight the other side where Street would be the BE....

"Bear" front with Tank playing the BE spot down in a 3 tech.
How old is he??
