At Safety. Then was better at Nickel but still not good. Then Seattle was like we don't care play outside and he was good there

This. The Niners inexplicably moved him away from his natural position. I think they were still stuck in the C3 Seattle mindset of every CB needs to be 6'3". It's ironic that it was Seattle that let Reed play outside.

I'm so glad that system is dead now.

It still is here though. The coaching staff eyes each secondary player and wants him to play a specific role. Guys like Womack are penciled in as NB right off the bat. Many teams have third cornerback play nickel, not a specific guy groomed to always play nickel. For example, they haven't ever played Verrett at nickel and never gave him any reps there. They're never playing Ambry at nickel. And so forth.

They won't hit on every corner. I think they are pretty good at receiver as well. It doesn't mean Dante Pettis, Jalen Hurd, and Ronnie Bell don't exist.
