So Richie James and Julian Taylor have to sit because of their draft status or are they not good enough?
These guys were pretty good in the preseason.
We all say this every year: Preseason doesn't matter.
Yup. Kory Sheets was good in preseason. Matt Breida was awful in preseason this year.
I will say this, I trust our offensive staff far more than our defensive staff in terms of evaluating talent and who is ready to play verses who isn't. What has happened with Eli Harold since being traded to Detroit, their unjustified faith in Cassius Marsh, playing Solomon Thomas out of position, and failure to develop any players (Tartt and Colbert do not look the same) has me questioning their judgment.
I am excited about James and his time will definitely come. It doesn't mean we need to send Garcon to the bench. His performance hasn't been great, but I think he should be given a year before we judge that he just doesn't have it anymore. Unless one of the young receivers has demonstrated that they have a clear advantage over the average starting corner in the NFL, I trust Kyle to work them into the offense as he sees fit.
With that said, I wonder if there are any other underutilized sub-4.35 40 guys that we can trade for? Having two deep threats would put us in a situation where we aren't so dependent on Goodwin and all of the underneath guys (like Trent Taylor) are helped immensely. It also puts Pettis only the slowest corner when we go 3 or 4 wide. Does anyone know of a player that fits this description?
