But Mathews would definitely be a part of the Red zone package which would warrant a roster spot.

If Shanny wants more size in the RZ then Hurd could fill that spot.

Go with these 5 receivers on the 46 to open the season (Goodwin, Pettis, Deebo, Hurd, James) until Taylor returns. And at which point someone of that group potentially sits in favor of TT on the 46 when he is back.

Cut both Matthews and Bourne. Carrying 7 WR's on the 53 is ridiculous, can use that extra body elsewhere.

Have you not noticed how often our WRs get injured? I think carrying 7 is almost a necessity at this point.

No it is not when you factor in our personnel groupings and how we like to attack opposing teams.

That's debatable, the problem is that the rest of the NFL sees that too. If you watch ATL tape then you will see how much Kyle prefers to get the ball to his WRs. We just haven't had the weapons to excute.

Lol hey I'll root for him if he gets a jersey...don't think he very good at all end of the day.

This, Kyle ran 21 personnel 47% of the time last yr...twice as much as the next highest team. Carrying 7WRs is silly considering we got talent and need elsewhere.

Not in this offense and how rarely they run 4 and 5 WR looks. There will pretty much always be a TE and a RB out on the field. With the backs and TEs having such a major role in the passing game, 6 WRs is more than sufficient.

Did we run that out of design or need? It was definitely need because everyone was hurt last year. It's the reason Bourne was our leading WR which isn't good.

The entire organization is being rebuilt from the ground up. It is Kyle who is choosing to design his offense around a heavy dose of 21 personnel. 21 personnel does not eliminate the ability to move the ball through the air. This is not Atlanta where he inherited players as an assistant, this is SF where he assembles the players he wants.

The rest of the NFL is every bit as on display as we are. Kyle uses 21 personnel to his advantage as he is a master of disguise and deception.

6 is probably sufficient I agree. But each WR will be used in different situations. We don't have a #1, 2 and 3 WR who always stay in the game. We aren't built like that. This is a WR group by committee based on matchup and weekly game plans.
Wide receiver cuts this year are probably the toughest pre season decision we have had to make since I can remember. Bourne is definitely out. He will get picked up on waivers and probably see significant playing time. It should come down to Taylor and Matthews. Easy to make arguments for either player. Matthews has a much bigger cap number. If they think Hurd is ready to play right away then cut Matthews. If not then cut Taylor or put him on IR. JG should get a vote here as well. Our receiving core is scary young without Matthews.
Taylor is arguably our best WR. He ain't getting cut.

Nope not true.

The yr ATL went to the SB they were 2nd in the league in 21 personnel usage and bottom of the league in 11 personnel.

Kyle has also stated he will always have a FB on the the team and will use him.

It's his offense man and it's not gonna change. 7 WRs on the final roster is silly.

But but but he's not 6-3 so he can't be good lol.
