Anointing James or Pettis over someone who has proven himself and is cheap and has a chemistry with Jimmy and who moved the chains last year. Bad move.

Another thing, as last year proved, you can not have enough players. There is no sure thing that the player you get in a trade will work in this system either.

Also fans are still playing the generalizing and boxing in a player at a position. This just gives Kyle the ability in sub packages with looks and designs that the other side has not seen and options that can be branched off. Spreading the D so that the run game can work also with more efficiency.

Anointing James after one or two rookie practices? Let's wait till we begin the season after going thru camps with the big boys. Or have not you fans learned from past anointments? Too many false prophets-haha. Remember he broke his collarbone twice. Could be Ellington 2.0, talent, but never healthy enough to prove it.

Maybe we're going a little too far but last year we were doing the same thing with Trent. I know I was. It's easy to look at James skill set and see how he fits in Kyles scheme. The dude is just a dynamic player, far more than Trent was. Plus he has above-average speed, meaning we can play him in positions besides just slot.

Come on Smokes...you know this.

When Shanahan was with Atlanta he said his ideal offensive day was getting catches from 11 guys ... why would he not want all the receivers he can get. Add to that that WRs get dinged up a lot, particularly when the offense values quickness over size, I could see them choosing to keep 7 WRs on the roster.

Imagine Pettis, Taylor, and James in a bunch with Goodwin on the other side. I'm sure Shanahan is already planning to get all his toys into space with the ball.

As for Taylor being undervalued ... look at the little guys who were undervalued around the NFL who went to the Pats and were suddenly stars. Taylor doesn't fit the measuring test but he can really play the game.

Not a knock on James, but i dont understand....

I get that people are calling him an "OW" but how many OW are we going to have on the roster? Only so many balls to go around.....

You Have Juice, Jet, Garcon, Goodwin, Kittle, Pettis, Williams, etc etc...

Where does a guy like James even fit in?

Garcon, Taylor, Pettis, and now James are all WR's that eat in the slot....

Garcon obviously plays outside for us, but honestly, i see quite a bit of redundancy in our picks, this is one of the glaring areas where he have a bit of a log jam.....

I don't get why you are confused. The prototypical receiver for Gesus and our system are these types of wideouts. You create competition and create depth in case of injuries by getting these guys who can create separation. Big receivers don't work for us unless ShannyLynch find a big guy who can also create separation but they've made it clear that guy wasn't in the draft. You seem to want to fit a square peg into a round hole. Doesn't work like that.

Cmon Papi NC... You forget about the Attaochu and Pita?

Anyways wasn't thinking Denver took Sutton and Hamilton though both are more outside guys though then Sanders can slide in the slot.

Love me some Trent, was just talking outloud that I'd entertain moving him if the right deal came along is all I was saying, even if we had to throw a pick on top.

First, I believe Kyle likes him and that he has talent, but Trent came in under different circumstances. We had no receivers, there was no one but Bruce Ellington who got hurt too much. Comparing the two, Trent was more polished coming out of college, his routes running and tree, he had the numbers, got better and better each year, despite his size, he was physically tough, didn't hurt so easily despite size and in his senior season he caught I believe 136 catches.

Richie is in coming under different circumstances, he won't get reps like Trent unless Trent is hurt along with Pettis, especially with the first team. Trent has proven himself and is Jimmy's safety valve on third downs and has his trust. Richie comes with more athletic talent like speed but wasn't valued as much as Trent was, because at one point the niners considered him a high priority UDFA, before deciding not to take the chance at the last minute, Trent has drafted earlier, no qualms. Trent is stronger-lifted 225 11x to Jame's 6x (my friends in high school could lift 225 10-12 x and they RBs and WR- not linemen) and has better change of direction in the three cone drill by .13 seconds if my memory serves. Using Richie in other positions, maybe but unlikely, the problem is his route running coming out of college had been said not to be crisp and route tree is supposedly is not complete. Most of all, the two injuries he had might portend his future (hoping him the best though), as Ellington 2.0. He needs to be developed. We sometimes see numbers in the stats, have to take into account competition level and type of offense he came from run and shoot and spread wrs sometimes are not all crisp route numbers and have limited trees etc.

So to say move Trent cause we got Richie is silly because Trent is game proven and Richie is not- you trade him-what is Jimmy going to think and feel? Richie must first look good against scrubs so that he can make the roster.

Haha, you know I was just playing.
I think he'll push Trent for the slot. It'll take a huge camp to steal his job though. It's not likely, but it's nice to now have depth at the position.

Pettis pushes Robinson off the roster. We're probably looking at:

Garçon, Goodwin, Taylor, Pettis, Bourne and James.

They'll all get reps throughout the year, so it's a smart move to draft someone that can match Taylor on the inside. It's probablt come down to Bolden and James fighting for the last roster spot, assuming we carry 6.

Pretty much a lock!

And Kyle will probably have a different 5 of these guys active each week depending on the matchups and game plans.

Will be fun to see how Shanny uses this group.

I'd be extremely happy with these six. Dunbar to the PS and the WR corps would be set for years.

Not sure I'll laugh, but certainly won't be upset. It would most likely mean we found a gem in later rounds.

Would be nice. Pettis could already be real good. To have James be better Potentially having two elite WRs on the team (finally).....
