I remember when Steve Smith was hyping him up so much. Really had high hopes for him but never improved on anything. Wish him luck somewhere else.

He could never get separation on punts or kickoffs. I never saw that breakaway speed. He had one good game as a recdeiver. Nsimba Webster looked good and seems like an upgrade.

James has struggled with injuries in multiple off-seasons, he has had a history going back to college, which is why he fell in the draft. He struggled with focus drops in his limited chances to catch the football.

As a returner, his vision was fine, but he lacked elite agility and his contact balance unfortunately was one of the worst I've ever seen. Shoestring tackles brought him down too easily. Webster isn't big either, but has way better contact balance and much better moves to make him dangerous as an open field runner.

Ultimately, Webster may not make it either because he has to be among the top 6 WR. Benjamin has been inconsistent in practice with drops but he's one of our fastest WRs and did better in the last game. Plus, he's a proven NFL vet at both WR/PR with several return TDs to his credit.

If Webster doesn't make the team, the only other guys with significant KR experience are Brandon Aiyuk and Ambry Thomas.. so... no idea what we do there.

Whatever happens, he'll be alright.

He can play RB, KR,PR, and. WR.

For what they can afford and knowing the playbook, can't expect much. Its late August.

We haven't really had a good kickoff or punt returner in years. But then I look around the league and we don't really see many big punt returns of kickoff returns anymore. With today's rules, it seems like half the kickoffs and punt plays involve an illegal block that calls the play back. Now this season they have the new rules for blocking below the waist on running plays. How many big runs are going to get called back? It's turning into flag football.

Take our teams situation last year. The NFL watching two top 3 picks suffer torn ACL's in the same game is a bad look. Its bad for the players, the team, and the fans. I'll gladly take a few rules changes if it means less of that.

Screw james.. no more pettis goodwin taylor and james.. i could care less who we signed to replace him. i think we are more than fine at wide out with our top two guys and then all the guys not named hurd who have taken advantage and have done a really good job in pre season so far. maybe the team could have brought in a o line guy. but i am just glad we cut this guy. whoever we get to return kicks and punts can not be worse than this former x. and where he goes and what he does means nothing to me. screw him

Anyone I'm so glad he's on, it was so painful watching him return punts......I mean fair catch punts

I liked Richie and I had great vision for him and even then slot WR (Trent Taylor) but I just didn't think Shanny knew how to use him... Good luck to the guy and I'm sure he'll find his way to Peetey !!!

Why? Trent sherfield is a lock from everything we've heard. Jennings sounds likely too and has played well. You're gonna be pissed if two of the guys who have played well make the team? You got someone else in mind?
