This. Pettis' finesse ass needs to grow some balls.

I was pounding the table for Anthony Miller but James in rd 7 is a phenomenal consolation prize as I don't see much dropoff between the two. He's quick, separates, and plays big to win contested catches.

Despite what everyone says I don't think he's a threat to Trent Taylor - I think he's our longterm solution for the Taylor Gabriel role and will be what Aldrick Robinson served as a stop gap for. Taylor likely was over-used at times due to injuries but he has a very specific role on this team as a slot wr and chains mover. James has the top end speed that Taylor doesn't but Taylor has the superior 3 cone quickness that endears him to that specific role.

I'm guessing this is Garcon's last yr as a 49er and see a pretty good young core of speed and separators in Goodwin, Pettis, Taylor, James and Bourne - all of which are upper echilon 3 cone players which IMO is the most important physical attribute in a Shannahan WR.

Good post.

Considering Shanahan's emphasis on toughness, it would appear that he does not agree.

We'll see. If he didn't have them before, he's going to have to grow them now.

While I think both will produce in our scheme and trust Shanny on Pettis for now - I think Pettis has a lower floor and is more likely than James to be a total non factor simply due to his limitations against physical press corners. While there are definite examples of his shiftiness beating press in certain "highlights", I've seen examples of him getting absolutely man handled at the LOS as well. I have no doubt we will scheme around that limitation if he can't consistently beat press but if we're having to scheme him open just to justify playing him outside then I don't see him being a viable longterm solution for the Garcon role and will be more of a rotational wr/role player which would be a disappointing outcome given the draft capital to get him. With that said I do see why Kyle likes him and the potential to be a number 1 if the stars align.

Pierre gonna be a great mentor for Pettis. We didn't trade up for Pettis just because.

I can see Garcon having another 2-3 year career here and being a valuable player for us. I see him having an Anquan Boldin type extended career here
I will wait and see how the 49ers use the players. Garcon could be here longer than people think. As long as he produces, Kyle will keep him. Just like Boldin was for us several years back.

As for Pettis, people making assumptions on 1 rookie camp? Funny as hell.

I don't think so, but I love James' aggressiveness and that drive every time he touches the ball he's trying to get in the end zone. I think Pettis has that TD need too, but he does it by avoiding contact and James doesn't seem to care at all.

Don't worry you spelled it right. Glad I was able to dispel your concern.
