Really glad to see him get signed. I'd like to know the reason we couldn't sign him.

Me too.
But Ian Rapaport says this signing has no bearing on his collusion case. LOL. I'm fairly confident the NFL lawyers disagree.

I was just joking
He could have wanted a 1 year deal as a "prove it" and earn a bigger payday next year. That's my guess at least.
He knew he'd have no shot at beating out Tartt.

It doesn't. Just because one team signs you doesn't mean two other teams or one team and the league office didn't previouslywork in concert to deny you an employment opportunity. That is why the case will continue, regardless of how it may end up ultimately.

Isn't the collusion case against the NFL? Last I checked the Panthers are a part of it. Would be very surprised if him signing has no merit in the case.

The teams and league office are regarded as 33 separate entities for the purpose of collusion.
So he signs with the Panthers but new info surfaces that the Saints and Vikings had an agreement to not sign him. That is collusion.
Or its discovered that the league office contacted Houston and told them to sign him. Still collusion. That he signed a contract today is irrelevant to past actions taken.

Panthers probably offered him shot at starting...KS was very clear to say we only had a backup role for him.

Just saw that the Seahawks offered him a contract in August too. Sounds too me like a cake and wanting to eat it too situation with him. Still puzzled on how he can turn contracts down and cry collision. I get what you're saying Phoenix, but I guess I disagree with that whole thing.

WZ article. Makes sense...
"We have two safeties who are down with Tartt and Colbert," Shanahan said. "They're questionable for this week. They've still got a chance to play, but we're not sure, so we brought in two safeties to work out to see. E. Reid's a guy that we would love to have here in that situation.
"It was harder for us just because we don't know what's going on with our starting safeties. We paid Tartt this year. That's why we didn't go after E. Reid (this offseason) because we decided to pay Tartt.
"With those guys not for sure being able to play, we'd love to get a guy in here like Eric Reid. The thing that made it hard for us is we're not putting Tartt and Colbert on IR. You can't pay someone as much money and things like that until you put your starter on IR and you have an open position.
"It made a lot more sense for him to go to Carolina. They put their safety on IR so they have an open position and they need him to come in and start, I would think, the rest of the year.
"They definitely got a good player. He'll definitely help them. I wish he could be here, but it wasn't the right situation for him or us to make it happen."

I wouldn't go that far... You mean the same injury prone Tartt or the one who misses tackles left and right? Tarrt is decent, I wouldn't say he's untouchable though.
