Athletes pay taxes based on where they play games so its not quite that simple.

12.5 mill might not even get you a 5 bedroom house in SF. Have 12.5 mill in Cleveland and you could probably purchase the entire city.

Yeah but you still have to live in Cleveland.
True, but Mayfield seems to have the right attitude. Landry too.

I think maybe the lesson from the Browns (and other teams) is that the best way to get good fast is to first be the best at sucking.

Still play 8 games + preseason here so it's still a solid chunk of change especially considering the difference in cost of living too

You're taxed on each game check depending on what state the game was in. So for 9 games a year he will be taxed based on Ohio's income tax, but the other 7 will be based on whatever state those are in. Still cheaper than CA, but half the contract will vary.

I did not know that. Move the stadium to *Nevada*, Jed.

I can't even name their coach, but I bet Cleveland looks like a much more desirable spot for coaches than in the past 20 years. Their current coaching staff just got a ton more pressure placed on them. They will be fun to watch. Hopefully they can do some damage in the AFC. Not our problem...maybe

LOL- at everyone calling out Lynch for being cheap. If he was cheap, he wouldn't have paid $21M for a fullback (Juice) or $30M for a rotational running back (McKinnon). If he was cheap then we wouldn't have just paid $54M to LB (Kwon) coming off of an ACL injury.

This doesn't have anything about being cheap. There could be numerous factors that are playing out.

Are you sure about that? Do you think if we offered bell more than the jets we wouldn't get him? Do you think ET wants to go to Cleveland? Lynch and co are cheap. Giving examples of bigger signings does NOT excuse the niners from ponying up an extra 1-2-3 mil per player to make sure we get them. They did not with earl Thomas (it looks like) and also bell

That's not entirely true. All of the roster and signing bonuses as well as incentives will still be in California.

Campbell?
I'm sure since he is coming off an injury, our staff wants to check him out medically before commiting financially and I approve of this method. If were going to throw big bucks and make him the highest paid safety in the league, I want to check under the hood first
If we sign Earl Thomas this is the best FA off season for the 49ers in more than a decade easily. It would be awesome. Lets make it happen.

Kwon was coming off an injury too and we signed him like an hour after the tampering period started.

Agreed. He'd be the best FA signing since Justin Smith (which wasn't that highly regarded at the time) imo. Combined with the Dee Ford trade, I'd feel great about our defense on paper going forward.
