Got to give Elway credit, bringing Fangio in to coach his team. He screwed the pooch on the last couple of HC's and methinks he got this one right. We'll see how VF's old school approach plays in Denver, but they needed a what you see is what you get coach.
Chances are he didn't. The odds are better hiring the 6th best offensive coordinator then the #1 defensive coordinator.
Do you actually have odds/stats on that, or are you just saying? I tend to agree with you for the most part, but I'm just wondering if you really have stats on something like that. lol
Probably best you are going to get
"Using all that we've learned thus far, the closest thing we would have to a profile for NFL head coaching success — and it's really a stretch — would look like this: an offensive-minded coach in his 40s with between 7–14 years of NFL coaching experience that's looking for his second head coaching job. But again, that's stretching things quite a bit. As far as I can tell, the profile for a successful NFL head coach doesn't really exist. The best coaches come from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences, and from the research I've seen (combined with my own), there's very little in the way of measurable data currently available that can help us predict NFL head coaching success with any more reliability than a coin flip."

In my opinion if you don't hire a good offensive play caller as your head coach, and you have a great OC, you are just going to lose him in a year or two so might as well just get one as your head coach. A creative offensive play caller is the most important position on a staff.
