Atlanta Falcons TE Ross Dwelley

6'5", 240 lbs.


A guy I liked as a UDFA signing. Good receiving TE at USD. He had a great catch on Thursday. Took a big hit and held on. He has the potential to develop into a quality backup TE. Biggest weakness is his inline blocking. Needs to get coached up and continue getting stronger to improve in that area.

He's so small for a TE.

Wouldn't mind him over Celek Time. The f**k happened to Celek. Workman like and sure handed backup, but he's neither this year. Doubt Celek with be with the team next year

I liked Dwelley more than Wicks during preseason and was sorry to see Wicks get the initial roster spot. Glad to see that the tables have turned though and that Wicks is on the practice squad and Dwelley on the roster. I thought Celek did a good job last year but he has sucked this year with some drops and a few untimely penalties. If Dwelley can deliver a few of those catches that he showed in his college highlight reel and get some pointers from Kittle on his blocking he could develop into a pretty good backup.

Him and Kittle are going to be strengths for us for a long time imo. Dude just needs to get his man strength going and he is going to be good.

I agree on Dwelley, he needs to become besties with Kittle, and move next door to him. LOL He needs to work out with him, and learn from him on becoming a better all around blocker at the TE position. Dwelley could become a solid #2 TE for us down the road, if he improves his blocking.

Check out his highlight reel above. He made some pretty nice sideline catches during his college career and he played pretty well during the preseason

Delanie Walker was too

He catches pretty much everything you throw at him. He is like a vacuum cleaner. He also runs good routes and has a good frame. At University of San Diego he excelled as a red zone target particularly for TD's. The only drawback is he is not fast. Nothing like Kittle speed. Certainly nothing like VD. He makes up for that with precise route running, fighting for the ball in traffic, catching almost everything and being a specialist in the red zone. All not bad things. Just don't expect him to be fast. These are the things I would say about him from watching him play over the years.

University of San Diego Torreros is not to be confused with the San Diego State Aztecs BTW. It's a smaller, private Catholic University. It is most famous to 49ers fans because it produced Josh Johnson at QB. Also Jim Harbaugh coached there before he was at Stanford. But the San Diego State Aztecs are the bigger and more prominent program into San Diego.

There are some really good things about him. He's a little underrated talent IMO. Just don't expect long 70+ yard breakaway runs. But we have Kittle for that and used to have VD for that at least in the past anyway.

Nice catch during the game
