Just looking at their collective PFF starter averages this year in simplistic terms:

Bears:
Offense - Average
Defense - Elite

49ers:
Offense - Above Average
Defense - Poor

Also, look at who they have starting today...16 of their starters are from 2017 & 2018. Both were drafting at #2 & #3 and both needed a FQB and have new FO's. Both had HC and system changes. Both could have retained or grabbed a new DC and position coaches if they wanted this off season (Fangio vs. Saleh).

We have a similar number of starters hanging over from the previous regime: Buckner, Blair, Mostert, Staley, Armstead, Ward, Tartt, etc. and chose to move on from others (Mike Person back over Joshua Garnett or Mark Nzeocha over Eli Harold or Jerick McKinnon over Carlos Hyde).

It's about as close as you're going to get.
Yes i agree, this is about as good of a comparison as it gets( besides carolina vs jacksonville).

But in 2017 the bears FO was together while the niners were getting together.

I have no issue with not getting mack. I think his contract and picks do not align with the timeline. I do not think he would have made them playoff contenders this year(no hindsight). And his year 3-5 would be superbowl years with no young replacement, and this is when
Warner, jimmy g, kittle, buckner, foster, witherspoon, among many others will be getting paid. So right when the window opens the salary cap is closing it.

Id argue that we do not have an above average offense. But that's just me.

Agreed...Kyle is just scheming his ass off to get that kind of production with 3 vastly different QB's. 3rd in rushing and 15th/18th in points. Remarkable.

Kyle + Garoppolo can mask a s**t-ton of talent issues.

Definitely hear you. We'll have to see how we close the gap this off season.

They got a nice break with Mack becoming available because without him I bet they'd still be a 4 to 6 win team.

Personally I wish we had the balls to do that but hey we'll be getting a top 5 pick to try and close that gap. Long term with Jimmy I'd take that over Mitchell so I'm guessing we'll catch up to them.

Long term you'll take the older qb who has 2 signifficant injuries in about 10 starts? Homers gonna homer

Give me a break. There is nothing homerish about this

Yeah. Beginning of the season I heard plenty of Bears fans saying they'd rather have Jimmy. Things change contstantly and often on the NFL.

I'd imagine everybody would take JG over MT then...probably even now.

Truth. Trubisky is developing quickly and should start 2019 on a pretty even playing field to JG who at this stage, just has to physically do it.
Pretty fair comparasion between the rebuilds if you ask me.

I remember everyone talking about how the 49ers "Fleeced" the Bears, and Lynch/Kyle, said, hey we loved the offer, but they are also happy....

And I said in here, what if Trubisky ends up being a legit QB? lol He is looking solid imo.
I think it's safe to say the Bears are no longer rebuilding. That team is ready to win now. Their front 7 is freaken stacked.

Trubisky has progressed nicely in his second year. I'm a big Jimmy G fan but he was injured without being hit going out of bounds. Was it a freak injury or is he injury prone? In hindsight the 49ers didn't have to give the big contract after 5 games. With the injury happening the price would've come way down. Hiring a defensive coordinator with no experience is a sure way to fail. The Rams and the Bears brought in Defensive Coaches with decades of experience and it shows on the field. Drafting Solomon Thomas cost the team a wasted high draft pick. GM Lynch took a class at Stanford and Thomas was in the class, I'm sure that played a big part in his being picked so high. Bottom line, the GM, Head Coach and Defensive Coach all had no experience when signed and it shows.
I'm not here to hate on trubisky. He's playing well this season. But I'm also not ready to anoint him as legit. Plenty of young QBs have had a decent to good 2nd or even 3rd year before the league catches up with them.
