There was a pretty strong contingent that was certain he should have been then first pick in the draft. CLEARLY history says they were right.
You cant judge pre-capped drafts by the standards of post-cap drafts.
Back in 2005, you MARRIED top 10 picks. Especially QBs. In Today's NFL there is ZERO chance Rodgers drops to 24.

he will beat us next year for sure.. especially if the game is at our place. you know he is always favored when he plays us cuz he wants to show us how wrong we were not to pick him.. next year for sure

Lots of talk about LaFleur being tired of Rodgers, too.
Ordinarily, I'd think there's no way any franchise would trade a QB like him, but he's getting older and clashing with his coaches again. I guess anything's possible.

After Favre's comments today, why do I get the feeling that the media will try to spin this by substituting Rodgers for Brady and start the rumors up again about replacing Jimmy.

That means that they were 23 dumb ass teams that passed on him.
Rodgers need that Brady "magic juice"

Many people in the know, thought he was the best QB in the draft. Was that half? I don't know....but many many respectable NFL types thought he was. GMs at the time said they had Rodgers rated higher then Alex Smith after the draft. So its not like they changed their opinion of him and went on the record 3 years later.
If you re-held the 2005 draft in a capped salary draft...he goes number 1.
At that time though, the salary cap was a different animal. If you take a QB top 10..... you had10-15% of your salary cap tied up in a rookie player. I could be wrong on this, but I think Alex Smith had something like 30 million guaranteed and roster bonus on a 50 million dollar contact. As i recall it, that was a bargain deal for the 49ers. The scuttle butt was he undersold Rodgers contract demands and the contract was worked out before the draft.
Teams simply did not draft ANOTHER QB high when they were paying for one on the roster. Teams had to deal with a lot of dead money when top draft choices failed.
There were teams like the Chargers who just traded out of the first round altogether just to avoid Rookie Contracts.
So to say ...heyyyy..... Rodgers went 24th lets not pretend people thought he would be great.......
That's just not accurate thinking.
Teams could not TAKE ON redundant salary high in the draft, you could not have a dude sit on the bench due to salary cap hits.
That's like saying right now....hey.... lets trade a 7th for JJ Watt.
Oh we cant? Why? Salary Cap.......
Lets not pretend JJ Watt was worth a 7th round draft choice......

After Shanahan admitting that they did serious due diligence on Tom Brady, I'm sure they would do the same if Rodgers becomes available.

Waiting for the inevitable Rodgers to SF rumors cause he was a fan growing up.
Although the amount of times we beat his ass during his career makes you wonder if he still likes the niners.

Starting to feel bad for the Packers... feels like they're about to become the 2014 version of us (and 2019 version of the Steelers, etc.) where a big magnifying glass of drama is looming over them.
