Put yourself in the Packers shoes. Would you make this trade? No, of course not.

Aren't they way over the cap and have to either cut a ton of players or take what you can get from the team that rodgers wants to go to? He is owed 46 million next year and they are currently 50 million over the cap.

Yes. And they could take Jimmy's salary and convert a big portion of it into a signing bonus, and that could alleviate some of that salary cap squeeze they're in.
Texans.

This post is entirely applicable to the 49ers as well.

The salary cap might seem like it is not a thing to some people, but it is and the 49ers are limited by it.

I suspect that by the end of the 2022 season we'll be laughing about this after Trey has balled out for us.

Exactly. No way Aaron sticks around in GB. It's just more of the same, and it could be minus Davonte Adams just to avoid the salary cap hit.

His time in GB is over. The question is who is the best suitor to give him a legitimate shot at a SB. No doubt it's the 49ers but would the Packers be willing to trade him to a conference rival ?

I hope so 😁

The Packers have numerous ways to create cap space and keep Rodgers AND Adams. Right now they have a very good team that just ran into a very good SF defense to knock them out of the tournament. Many of the key players are at their peak right now. So, they extend players with voidable years on the back end, punt the ball down the field a couple of years to when Rodgers almost certainly will not continue to play, and deal with cap issues then. That's what the Saints did, and yes, they are dealing with the problem now but they were able to keep it together as long as Brees was there. Expect GB to follow.

Rodgers knows he is not likely to find another landing spot that offers him the same supporting cast as Green Bay. SF is mentioned as a potential spot but that is nonsense. We are in the process of getting rid of one big contract so we can sign Bosa/Deebo and friends. It would make no sense to bring him here for a year or two at the expense of our young stars.

The only other team that might make sense is Denver and that does make sense as they have the cap and draft picks to allow GB to retool.

The problem with all this is the reality that Jordan Love has shown nothing to make Packer shareholders excited about letting Rodgers walk if there is any viable option at all.

The more I look at the options the less likely it seems the Packers will let him walk if he wants to play some more.

Start thinking like McVay and it will happen. This "let's lock up our stars for the future" strategy hasn't worked for us for the past……FOREVER. Our last SB victory was primarily because our owner went all in to WIN NOW, and he made big name acquisitions ala McVay. The secret formula to winning when you have a stacked team is…..getting it more stacked ! Not trying to build from the bottom up while your stars age and wither away.

I trust Kyle and Lynch to go all in for Rodgers or Brady. Can't wait !

If you have a franchise quarterback your window is large and long and can tolerate error. A la the Seahawks with Wilson.

If you are plug and playing average QBs you have a short window where the defense can be dominant and get you a possible win if the other team trips. Usually those windows are short 3-4 years of making the playoffs and then rebuild. It can be done but it involves luck and everything bouncing your way on a magical run.
Stifford played all of those years getting CTE'd with the Lions and has the same amount of SB rings and Aaron.

COME TO THE BAY AARON. DO IT.
I bet he stays put in GB or goes to Denver. Only two that make sense.

Ya...a lot of reports now suggesting Rodgers stays, but I just find that still hard to believe after all the things he publicly said about the org in the offseason

Honestly, I dont see the whole appeal with Denver. I think a great underrated landing spot...wait for it...Dolphins. Best cap space situation and some great key pieces over there. He would have an amazing core of receivers assuming they resign Geisicki and Adams follows Rodgers. Having Waddle, Parker, Geisicki, and Adams would instantly make them the top passing attack. They would have to spend some capital on offensive line though, but there a ton of good lineman in FA. Their secondary is great and would probably just have to focus attention on getting pass rushers via draft and FA.
