The fact that Hightower hasn't been fired yet proves that there's zero accountability under Shanahan.

No. I don't rate Hightower but you can't make such a sweeping generalisation as that.

Why not?

Unless you're the long snapper, you can rest assured your job will be safe no matter how hard you suck.

Really? Interesting how many players have been accused of being in Shanahan's black book over the last couple of years. I don't see any sign of safe jobs for all.

Agreed. That take is absurd. DJ Jones pushed Earl Mitchell off the roster. They let Jeff Zgonina walk to bring in Kris Kocurek. They brought in Kwon Alexander when they had enough of Foster and then let Greenlaw push Alexander off the roster. They had enough of Cassius Marsh and upgraded the pass rush. And let's not get started on the running backs.

I want a coaching upgrade for special team, but to say everyone's job is safe minus the long snapper?

Posted it back in Dec, 2020, but we still need vast improvement here. This is, after all, 1/3 of the game, and all complaints here are bona fide, not off the wall . The thot processes of ST seems a problem also, re: running it back from EZ to no trick kicks or punts, no surprises on PRs or KOs.....and ...well, look at our status at bottom 10% of the league in STs. If that really is 1/3 of our game....then we have to do better both on the field...and calling the plays.
Reading the transcript from Hightower's presser leaves me no more confident in special teams than last year.

Robert Salah should take Hightower to the Jets with him.

No. Kyle should fire him.

The question is..why HASN'T Kyle fired him already.

No clue, but my guess is that Kyle doesn't pay too much attention to special teams. The guess is likely wrong because as I've stated earlier, they have provided Hightower with players. People may not like drafting a punter in the 4th, but Wish clearly has some ability beyond the standard punter. Hightower doesn't even attempt to use him. Before Mostert broke out as our top back, he was a really good gunner on special teams. By contrast, I think Jim Harbaugh really prioritized special teams. If there is one thing he is better than Kyle at, that's it.

ST still is part of the HC's bailiwick, so this is on Kyle too. I know he is running the O, and has eyes on D all game, probably calling some if not most D sets….but fact remains, HC is responsible for STs also, altho he has a ST coach for this. But looking back over KS/JL's yrs here, our STs haven't done diddly, there has been no imagination, no surprises (onside KOs, actually returning punts instead of just fielding them , trick kicks from WISH…a wobbler , a grubber, and whatever else he has in the bag, plus a host of other ST staples).

I understand kyle is just torn between O and D, but dang I wish he would get JL to oversee ST coach and gig STs into doing something different than "the ordinary". As for our KO returns and fielding a high , long hanging KO, 7 yds deep in EZ, it would be nice if somebody told the guys back there to just let it go. How many KOs do we start at the 20 or 21? A lot.

Not having production from STs has really cheated Kyle out of at least 3 to 4 pts/ game…possibly more. Get enough of those and that is at least a couple more Ws than we had. Kyle has to take time to see what ST is…or isn't doing , even if it is only on film. One would think he isn't doing that because our STs look so vanilla, so the same each and every game.
